It's also possible that Austin realizes what a mistake it was turning the match down back then and is saying it should have been him and Hogan after all. Either way, I agree with Austin that he and Hogan don't really seem they would mesh well. The type of charisma that Rock and Hogan had, they seemed more like a perfect match for each other, especially with a similarity in them both wanting to star in movies. In my view, Austin should have been in the WWE Title match with Triple H.

But I mean... come on. Do you really think Vince approached Austin in 2002 about a Mania match w/ Hogan and SCSA said "nah, no thanks. Don't think the styles match up well. Get me in a feud with Scott Hall ASAP"

Austin might have had those reservations about He and Hogan's style to some degree, but I sincerely doubt it was a big enough deal that he would pass up on a feud with the most iconic wrestler in history for a match with Scott Hall

This is exactly how i see it going. They probably had to beg Hall to even consider the match.

That's probably what Hall said when they told him Vince wanted Hogan before he chose Hall/SCSA.

Well, the speculation is that Austin doesn't like Hogan on a personal level and thus didn't care to work with him mainly for that reason. Just look at how he snubbed him at the WM22 HOF. If he did actually refuse to work with Hogan (Austin was in asshole mode around this time, there was also talks he didn't want to feud Booker T. in late 2001/early 2002), then he probably assumed they would find some other significant role for him, such as being in the world title match or even just fighting Undertaker or whoever, not dropping down to fight Hall. But even if he wanted to fight Hogan, I would think his opinion would carry enough weight that he could have either replaced Rock or at least got his way into the world title match. It's weird either way that Austin ended up fighting Scott Hall in pretty much a midcard match.
