BACKSTORY

"January 2nd, 2002 - the dawn of a new era. With the company known as World Championship Wrestling seemingly in shambles, the landscape of professional wrestling is currently in shambles. With Extreme Championship Wrestling closing down and no viable competitor for the global juggernaut known as the World Wrestling Federation, a monopoly on the sports entertainment industry was sure to take place... or would it? Though this was knowledge to a select few individuals involved in the process, a major revolution was about to take place in the world of PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. In a 'sport' dominated with bad writing and less than stellar execution all force-fed to the masses by a millionaire from Connecticut, three powerful men looked to take back the sport that so many fans around the world were passionate about. Desperate for competition once more, the mega star known by the name of Hulk Hogan had devised a plan, but he would need the help of his friends to pull off such a cunning move. Considering that he didn't know how to use a computer, Eric Bischoff would have helped with phase one: posting every championship that Hulk Hogan had won on eBay, an up and coming auction site to be sold to the highest bidder. "What the fuck is eBay? Brother? The only Bay I know is the San Francisco Bay, and that's were alllll of the Hulkamaniacs gather to sing their praises, dude." Phase two was a rather simple phase as well, Hogan would need a brain trust to help him oversee the day-to-day operations of the company. This would have come in the form of a longtime friend, Randy Savage. The mission was one that they couldn't fail: purchasing the rights to the World Championship Wrestling brand and all intellectual property that pertained to WCW which was currently being held hostage by Ted Turner's global conglomerate, Time Warner Cable. This transaction went through and for what some could consider a measly price of twenty five million dollars ($25,000,000) the World Championship Wrestling roster was now owned by the newfly formed MEGA POWERZ INC (MPI): A business branch formed by CEO Hulk Hogan, Vice President Eric Bischoff and Executive Randy Savage to oversee the relaunch of WCW with a hefty budget of thirty million dollars. ($30,000,000). Seeing that most of the bigger names such as Sting, Goldberg and Kevin Nash were contracted directly by Time Warner, those contracts were now owned by MPI and those would be the biggest names in the beginning of the relaunch but this time around, there was a new focus: While WCW would cater to the casual fans with these larger than life mastodons, there was also going to be a renewed focus on smaller competitors and their cruiserweight division, something that wasn't evident towards the end of the original WCW. Would they be able to take down Vince McMahon and the WWF? Time will tell..."

Written contracts were offered to the following competitors: CM Punk (3 years), Steve Corino (9 months, due to him being a freelancer), John Cena (2 years), Samoa Joe (3 years), Low Ki (3 years), Ultimo Dragon (3 years), Sabu (6 months), Teddy Hart, (3 years), Roddy Piper (3 years, managerial role), Super Crazy (3 years), Yoshihiro Taijiri (3 years), Trent Acid (3 years) and Travis Tomko (3 years). The following talents were released from their contracts: Jason Jett, Kimona Wanalaya, Shane Douglas, M.I. Smooth, the Harris Brothers and Lash LeRoux. We wish all of these talented individuals success in wherever they end up next, there's simply no room for this in the new WCW. Negotiations have begun to get WCW Monday Nitro, our flagship weekly syndicated broadcast back on the air. We have sent out feelers to The Nashville Network (TNN), UPN, MTV and FOX. Though we don't currently know where Nitro will end up, we assure you that this relaunch of WCW is well underway and we aim to provide you the heart-stopping in ring action and storytelling that you've come to expect from World Championship Wrestling. Never know the ratings mods give some wrestlers but hopefully Cena is already pretty high on charisma and such. That would be a great early signin' with all those others like Joe, Ki and Punk. Tomko could sure interestin' too.

"Oooooh yeeeeah, WCW fans! All previously discussed contract offers apart from Tommy Dreamer, who chose to sign with the WWF have been accepted and the talents will be heading to the newly relaunched WCW Power Plant to eliminate any potential ring rust or to recieve extra experience before debuting on WCW Monday Nitro when the relaunch of WCW hits a TV near you! We have also decided to offer out a few more contracts, though these individuals will remain nameless at this time."

It was announced earlier today that Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) Has closed its doors after a scandal involving head trainer Danny Daniels was made public. Daniels was allegedly involved in a drug trafficking ring and when detained by offers, had narcotics, cocaine and marijuana on his person. He is looking at multi thousand dollar fine or jail time. This means that young up-and-coming talents like Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, Leviathan and Shelton Benjamin are free agents.
