While the Hogan heel turn and NWO angle did the same thing, does WWE really have a big enough babyface to fall back on? And if not, can they really create one?

They took CM Punk from jobbing for 9 straight PPVs into the main event and biggest star in years after one promo so imo they can. WCW didn't really have a lead babyface until Uncensored 97 when Sting dropped from the rafters. They had faces but Hogan was the face of the company like HHH from 2003-2005.

Punk did that on his own, but if they can use this to build Punk up as the next big thing, then I agree with you. There's no way this can turn out badly if it's done right.

I loved Jeff hardy, but he could never calm his demons down long enough. Randy iznt so engaging as a person, but Punk can at least talk 2 u even 4 a few minutes. I'm a against John turning evil, but I like Sheamus and Punk if he can not seem so melancholy all the time

Punk had the tools but they gave him the platform and have started pushing his face every where the WWE can make me a star if they wished, their marketing team is that good.

Off topic but damn your sig wins the internet.

Use Punk properly and you have a perfect face replacement. Until Vince realises this smiley smiley crap doesn't work as a babyface anymore we'll never see Cena successfully turn heel. The sooner he retires the better.
