He didn’t win it. You can’t simultaneously have someone defend a d-tier accolade that isn’t even even sanctioned and expect the company to completely back him as a top-tier player.

Only jumping on in here to say it's criminal that WWE never utilized Norman Smiley following the death of WCW. He could have been an absolutely solid mid-card champion for them.

I’m honestly confused that they didn’t because his comedy character is exactly what Vince would’ve loved. It just feels like more blatant I won’t use anything WCW created even though it was created by his head Booker Vince Russo so if there was an exception to that policy, you would think that it would’ve been that.
