So Italian outsider who i will now be referring to as ITO raised a point we've all been thinking. Why the hell do you check the forums daily but not post? I want you all to fucking read this guy's post and circle the one that makes you lurk, post once dew it.

some randome website i got when i googled why do people lurk said:
Why do people lurk? My five reasons.
One of the most frustrating aspects of running a forum are the people that lurk but don't participate in discussions. I think people lurk because:

1. They don't feel "cool", "smart", or "knowledgeable" enough to be able to contribute.
2. Difficulty navigating and knowing where to post and what is appropriate to post. I remember at some point I joined a forum an unknowingly broke a rule (responded to an old post) and I shied away from participating for a long time after that.
3. They are coming for information but not to contribute
4. They forget
5. They think the forum is moving too slow and they won't get a response.

What do you think? How have you gotten lurkers to participate?

So Mcfly would circle 1, I'm thinking we got kids who are only allowed on the internetz for 15 minute intervals and they would probably circle 4 or 1. Vast majority of the people here are probably #5(I use to do this a year ago) #2 shouldn't be an issue, this forum is well organized and it's not like TDK is here to say don't create this thread it was created three years ago. Harassment is one of the things that makes this forum stand out and who honestly wants to attract members who bitch and whine all the time

what do you think etcs

I seldom get any responses from any serious discussion threads I make not involving religion. The only exception thus far is the Aliens On Our Doorstep. So I have a hard time thinking of topics important enough to post in serious discussion that arn't just going to sit there and ferment for days.

Maybe it could be that their opinions have already been expressed and that they don't feel like they can contribute more than a simple "AGREED"

I've lurked a little lately, I'll log in, look at a couple of threads and lately the theads just haven't interested me so I don't see a reason to post.

Same. It's odd that people say the forum is lacking in wrestling talk, yet the only time you are bound to get replies is in the wrestling section or HIAT.

6. too scared to be flamed?
:saroll:
Pretty much what #1 is.
Everywhere in the internets tries to post intelligently, it's a rule not to be a noob. Unless they find a jungle where they're all together.

Not everyone wants to essay posts on your topics but still want to post in them, your sticky in serious discussion is lulz. Infract me if i make a one liner and you think it's going to make people essay post? Better get Axis back.

If all you can say is agree you might as well start saying signed and then switch up the size and font or something

To make two pages in a thread is rare, lurkers need to be more active. Forum's doing Ok but yeh

The Italian Outsider already beat me to infracting and deleting your post. But no, my intent on deleting your one liners and pointless trolling is not in order to garner activity with essay posts. It's to clean up Serious Discussion and make it safe to where people CAN post essays & debates if they so choose. Without risking being flamed, called a moron, or otherwise trolled by those who refuse to abide by the rules of the forum beyond HIAT. As you can see I've been perfectly comfortable with Serious Discussion going entire DAYS without a single new thread, or even a reply to an existing thread. Because I am far more happier with an inactive section that is inactive because it punishes trolls, rather than modding a section that is active just because it refuses to moderate the actions of said trolls.
