As the title says. I actually do not mind wreslting being PG and I vastly prefer it over things like Japanese death matches.

Over the last few months being a newb to the network here are my favourite things I have seen.

1992 Royal Rumble (rumble match)
UK Title Tourney
2016 Survivor Series

All of which is PG. I grew up on PG wrestling and are watching the Attitude Era. Most of the AE is fairly crap, most of the PPVs are actually crap with several bad Rumbles and Wrestlemania (not XVII). Most of the AE is also PG. What I like about the AE is.

1. The characters. Austin, Rock, Kane etc.
2. Using the mid card and getting them over.
3. Storylines (my god there are some bad ones).

I can live without the sexy women (prefer the current women wrestlers in looks and talent), and the violence while cool took its toll on the performers.

So I think PG gets blamed for other problems wrestling has.

1. Overly scripted
2. Bad storylines
3/ 50/50 booking+ rematch clauses
4. Repetitive matches (Charlotte/Sasha every PPV).
5. To many titles.
6. No organic progression (this person is popular, push them to the moon)
7. Vince K McMahon

Added up it devalues the wrestlers so no one gets over at least like the greats did. Most of the great matches I can think of would actually all be suitable for PG.

PG era is not the problem. Compelling storylines can be done within the PG format.

If WWE moved away from it, it probably wouldn't change things drastically as much as some folks think.

I mean, those 7 issues that have been listed above in the OP are pretty much the problem in WWE nowadays, not the actual PG format.

I know you guys hate What Culture, but this rant is pretty much saying that PG ain't the problem with WWE. But yeah, a lot of the issues are not based on PG. Because, wrestling wise, WWE is great now and while this video was a bit out of date, there is still good stuff in modern WWE. Just some of the negatives drag it down.

I may be alone in saying this but the "attitude era" was only entertaining because it was unpredictable. Most of it was a mess and many storylines made little to no sense but it "pushed the envelope" and that is what Vince was all about. Back then he had to compete for viewers.

You can have an unpredictable storyline or match with out it having to be TV 14. It can be organized, gripping, and really pull on the feels of the fans. Honestly, they just seem to need new writers who are more in touch with the fans than their wallets.

The writers are not the problem for the most part. The problem is Vince McMahon basically taking every idea they come up with either giving it his own twist, or throwing it in the bin and replacing it with his own idea.

Vince often forces the writers to re-write the third hour of RAW whilst the first hour is starting.

Then there are writers like Road Dogg who are complete shit. But RAW has both RD Evans and Jimmy Jacobs writing on it, and those guys are two of the smartest minds in this business.

That's what I miss the most...the unpredictability...I kind of wish that sometimes
the WWE creative team would take some risks and throw out some random
surprises and shocking moments.

I mean its wrestling...let it be crazy, strange and unpredictable...and still PG...

Well I guess we blame Vince then. :vince3:

I feel like because Vince doesn't have to fight for ratings or views, he kind of just plays by the book. This just sucks for us fans because 90% of the time, the match outcomes are predictable.

I know this may sound like a crazy idea...but...may-be we
shouldn't blame Vince for everything wrong with the WWE?

May-be?

The lack of competition means the WWE doesn't really have to "try" anymore...
and by "try" I mean actually be interesting.

That video is really good.

WCW (when it was not crap circa 97/98) was also PG. The Star Wars movies are PG (most of them).
