Who ya gonna call? Not the Ghostbusters.

I got a phone call yesterday from Gamestop. I had pre-ordered Ghostbusters (which was supposed to come out on October 21st) and they said that Activision has decided not to publish the game.

I looked on Wikipedia and it said it was delayed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the film. Which would also be the 20th anniversary of Ghostbusters 2.

I've been waiting for this game since October of last year. Bullshit I tell ya! We're close enough already, just give me the damn game.

damn, and they pics and shit on that one month of Game Informer magazine too... wow you saved my ass, I would've looked for it forever wanting to get it, reading bout it looked like and sounded like it would've been a great game man, the movie was unbeliveable too

The 25th/20th Anniversaries of the movies is in June of '09.

Yeah, they need a publisher too, but from what I understand the previous one decided not to do it because they wanted to delay it again. Also, everything else I read says it shouldn't be hard at all to get another publisher with all of the publicity it's already had.

And if anyone thinks it's old news, I didn't find out until yesterday.

Well it is old news Chuck sorry to say, I've known this for nearly a month already. I'm kinda suprised you were called. Gamestop Canada, does not call customers in this situation unless the game is out right canceled.

Here is what I know. Activision has dropped it from there publishing list. Why? No one actually knows except Activision and there not talking.

Will the game be delayed till next Spring? Most likely. Rumor is that EA has already picked up the publishing rights and are the reason the delay rumors started and since the anniversary of Ghostbusters is next year (and there is all sorts of new box sets as well as Blu-ray release etc of the movies), EA figured they could make more money by waiting to release it at the same time as that....and there probably right.

The ray of hope....None of this is official (well the Activision dropping the game is) but beyond that everything else is rumor and speculation. It is possible that a company including EA could step in and pick it up, and still release it close to its original release of October.

Final bit of more secret news concerning Ghostbusters that very few people know about. Both Sony Playstation Division and Microsoft Games divsion attempted to secure the publishing rights within a week after Activision dropped it. Sony's plan was to scrap all versions (except the PS3, PS2 & PSP versions) and make it there exclusive. Microsoft Games plan was to do the same.....except they were only going to scrap the Playstation versions and still release the 360, Wii, & DS versions. The developer turned both sides down as the offer for it was not enough to cover the costs of developing the game for every platform just to scrap half of them.
