First up, sorry to @LadyHotrod for potentially derailing this thread with the Jericho pic (I've removed it because it's not relevant to the thread). That thread is about the Honkey Tonk Man, but it does bring up an interesting question:

For years the IC title was THE wrestling title in WWE, the showmen and attractions had the top spot and the actual matches came out of the Intercontinental Champions... I'd be (almost) willing to bet that everybody has nostalgic memories of the whoever the IC champ was when they started watching.

But who was the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time?

His reign made the belt matter even the way he lost added to it's prestige. Miz and Jericho havin' countless reigns can't mimic that.

Good question.

Plenty of great ones... but I might honestly, as big as a Jericho fan as I am... have to say Miz.

He made the title seem really important. He basically carried the brand he was on at any given title with the belt. Surely times he was the main champ showing up at times. He made the the title relevant again. A lot of other greats held it at a time the belt still felt like a huge deal... but Miz worked his ass off to make it feel like a huge deal. Props to him.

No worries, buddy, haha.

You know my answer is the Honky Tonk Man.

Obviously the longest reigning champ, he wasn't even supposed to hold on to it for a long period of time originally. I think Jake the Snake Roberts was supposed to beat him and get the belt, but, he was heavily in to his drugs at the time, failed tests, and Honky ended up keeping it. He had some good feuds during this time, is one of the best heels of all time, it's a pretty impressive run for someone who wasn't even supposed to be in that position for any long length of time. It's sad that he started falling off the map after that, but, I think any wrestling fan, when they think of greatest IC champs of all time, they may not put him as #1 like I do, but, he is guaranteed to be on everyone's list.

Miz and Jericho for me tbh, its always talked about how Miz would elevate the belt every time he'd win it and that's 100% true, but so would Jericho. Whether it was 09 against Rey or 01 against Benoit, the IC title matches were some of the best things going when he had the belt.

I'd rank Honky top 5 at least maybe

Randy Savage.

Man says he's the greatest intercontinental champion of all time. When has he ever been wrong?

Miz Gawd.

Over the past 5 years, that title hasn’t felt important unless he was holding it or chasing it. You can see that being Champion actually means something to him. The infamous Talking Smack promo is evident of that. He didn’t have the matches that Savage had but I think he’s the easy choice. At least for me

More on board with Jericho than Miz. Then again I just don't think the belt has meant anything for awhile now.

Bret and Perfect would probably in my top five too. Bret's IC matches with Perfect and Bulldog are two faves of mine.

As far as elevating the belt Razor, Shawn and Diesel all did a ton for it in the 90s as well
