If the company just released him, it would prove just what little regard they had for his money making possibilites. Or seen as a liability, because WWE just doesn't let top guys go. Not like he is Angle on deathwatch 06.

If I was WWE, he is in breach of contract. Network coming up, and alot of talents not knowing what their PPV cut is going to be, I'd starve this guy out and tie his ass up in court for years. "hey mister rebel....wanna plsay?" Boom! McDevitt has you paying legal fees until you broke and have to come back....let that be a lesson to the rest of you would be rebels.

I'm surprised he didn't pull some Gail Kim shit and just lay down in his matches "Finger Poke of Doom" style until WWE sent him home. Then at least he wouldn't have been in violation of his contract. I doubt there's any clause in there that states he absolutely must deliver 5-star performances.

He's hardly taken any breaks at all. I'm sure he has days upon days of paid leave stacked up that he's probably just gonna use up until his contract expires.

Guess no on here has ever heard of terminal leave. He's getting paid to sit at home and do nothing. Good for him.

Look up Warrior, Ultimate.

He won't touch a check for a royalty and if he shows up on a wwe approved pr event or rival promotion will be sued. That's why he's cancelled all these bookings, they were wwe approved

Unless he's a flaming moron (which he's not), he'll cash every royalty check WWE sends him. He's at a point now where he can live off royalties for the rest of his life.

Legally, he just has to wait out the remainder of his contract before he can appear for another promotion or network. But when that contract expires, he can do whatever he wants. It's just going to suck for him if he tries to get back into wrestling somewhere else because he won't be able to be "CM Punk", which is the name nearly everyone identifies him by.

Does WWE own that name? He was using it before in ROH and TNA, but I know stuff could have changed.

He might have had to sign it over on signing with the WWE though. Something tells me he would have kept it himself though.

This came up back in 2011 when they were trying to resign Punk before the Summer Of Punk thing. They worked out an interesting deal where Punk still owns his name and can use it in other places but WWE has rights to his name for merchandise purposes. That was the last I read anyhow on that situation.

Steve Austin deal....Can't sell Stone Cold shit, but can sell Steve Austin shit.
And LOL terminal leave, they ain't union protected. Also, WWE royalties are date oriented, you miss a cut off, you are not on a game, or collect anything. Steve Austin dind't make shit when he left, Brock Lesnar didn't make shit when he left.

Warrior went to court and lost and didn't get shit when he left too. Every shirt they are flipping, the dolls, etc isn't paying a cent to Punk because he walked just like those other guys.

I'm going to laugh my ass off when Punk returns in Chicago to show that it was all a work and all you "Smarks" that think you know everything about the inner workings of WWE cry yourselves to sleep.

Coming back to the name thing a sec... The WWE do not own the name CM Punk but they own all the money he makes from it. Therefore if he does wrestle anywhere else he WILL have to change his name because I'm sure whichever company it is won't want the WWE making money off of their employee.
