Boy, how do things change?

Over the past year, the WWE had advertised this "Divas/Women's Revolution" in response to the growing popularity of the NXT Women's division which was predominately built by a group of four women. Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley, otherwise known as the "Four Horsewomen" had stolen the show at various NXT shows and Takeover events and, along with their personality, quickly became loved by the fans. The WWE called three of the four women on July 13th, 2015 and now that we are over a year removed from that event, the division has changed massively. Now with the brand of "Diva's" being thrown away, a new WWE Women's Championship being formed, and WWE having Sasha Banks and Charlotte main event Raw and last year, Banks and Bayley main evented a WWE special for the first time in an amazing 30 minute IronWomen match, things have changed. Add the possibility that Charlotte and Sasha Banks may be main eventing WWE Hell in a Cell, this may be arguably the best Era for Women's wrestling in WWE. But...some may disagree, so I made this thread.

WWEF, I ask you, what era do you think was the best for Women's wrestling (or Diva's, if you're old school like that) in WWE?

I'd say now given that they have more opportunities, they are no longer called "divas", and they are more respected for being good at wrestling instead of just good for looking at.

Even though I wasn't watching around this time, but 2003 to 2006 is probably the golden age for women's wrestling. In terms of equality more women were competing in matches that had more hardcore stipulations such as street fights and cage matches, Jacqueline even won the Cruiserweight Championship iirc. In addition the roster was one of the best WWE had with people like Trish Stratus, Gail Kim, Lita, Victoria, and Molly Holly fighting for the belt, all of this culminated in having the woman"s title main event an episode of Raw.

It's still pretty bad these days to be fair what with having to shill "Women's Revolution" every 13 seconds and constantly beating into fans heads that these talented young ladies either look up to or are directly related to great male wrestlers but I digress, Women's wrestling in WWE is the best it's ever been even if it's all just a marketing scheme at the moment.

When Women stop having to be labelled as "Leaders of the Women's Revolution" and have to suck up to Stephanie McMahon and lie saying it's all her idea, when that stops it'll be a true Women's Revolution and the division will never have been better.

This is the era of the female athlete! Women wrestling has never been bigger, thank you @StephMcMahon for giving us the chance. Without you, we'd have been nothing~!

It's a hard question to answer I wanna say now because the wrestling from these women today is on another level compared to previous years in the WWE but I don't want to count out Chyna, Trish, Lita, Mickie james, Michelle mccool, Beth phoenix, Victoria, Molly holly and, Melina who I feel all should be classified as great women wrestlers. Chyna, trish and, Lita had what I feel the Entire WWE universe is missing now which is "STAR POWER". People like Kelly Kelly, Torrie Wilson and, Stacy Kiebler while I did love them in and out the ring I feel they were more for eye candy then to actually put on a clinic in the ring. Sable broke the mold for me honestly she wasn't that great of a wrestler but without her blazing the way (also Ivory and Jacqueline) I don't know if we would have ever had this womens revolution today. THEY WENT THROUGH THE WORSE SO WE CAN ACTUALLY ENJOY WOMEN WRESTLING NOT JUST FALLING AROUND IN THE RING GETTING STRIPPED OF CLOTHES AND ALSO DIGNITY.
:true: Toast to those former great women wrestlers and R.I.P Chyna!

That is hardly true. WWE rarely held any sort of extreme match type that included women. As of my knowledge, there was 1 steel cage match in 2003 and that was about it. And that match had no fan-fare as it was on an episode of Raw Roulette, and was a few minutes long with a lot of interference from other male competitor. Other extreme stipulations were marred with horrendous tag lines, that were far too demeaning to really care that they had women competing in really violent matches. For the most part, you had 2 poorly trained models-turned wrestlers wrestling in 2-4 minute matches that included nothing but botches. WWE did have a few other "extreme" women's matches but that doesn't compare to the recent string of women talent and matches that have come through the WWE.

Women's wrestling is very strong, and some can argue WWE is trying too hard to push it as far as possible, but I think it's just WWE trying to really go for a strong division more than them trying to shit on it.

Well...I've only just come back to wrestling...and
considering the state Women's wrestling was in
when I left compared to now...its simply amazing.

Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Naomi,
Nikki Bella, Natalya, Nia Jax...all are amazing...but
the most exciting aspect for me is the main roster
"Rookies" Alexa Bliss & Carmella. These 2 have just
stepped onto the biggest wrestling stage in the world
and have not missed a beat.

Plus there are now Australians in the mix like Emma,
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce...all 3 of course have my
full admiration and support.

An lets not forget Asuka...a woman who to this day
remains undefeated in NXT. A woman who could be
the most technically gifted female wrestler to ever
lace up a boot.

I'm so glad I'm back to witness all of this.

Where yo' grandma stay.
In WWE only? Now. The Ruthless Aggression era still emphasized a majority of Woman as eyecandy that wrestle occasionally (albeit not good), but they were more involved. The attitude era...the only Women I can think of from then off the top of my head are Chyna and Lita so if that's any indication...

The current crop of Women given WWE doesn't lose interest could literally be the best in the history of ever in WWE.

There was a period of time in the 1980's that was pretty good. We had some good women tag teams, such as the Jumping Bomb Angels, the Glamour Girls, and a few others. They actually had a women's tag belt that lasted for a good six years before being retired. During this period of time, we had some good wrestlers such as Leilani Kai, Wendi Richter and possibly the best woman talker in wrestling history, Sensational Sherri.

That being said, I think the current has to be the best. WWF eventually sort of gave up on the women in the 80s. Not only that, the roster was always very thin. The only matches you ever saw were title matches for the most part. At least today, you get regular women's matches as well. The depth of the roster as compared to other eras, the fact that they are letting the women do more in matches... I think it definitely defines this era. The fact that the women easily had the best match at WrestleMania and have several times had the best match of the night on both Raw and Smackdown says a lot about how good this era is and how good it can be.

Women's wrestling died with Mae Young. until I see Sasha or Charlotte taking table bumps off stages at 80 years old then I won't be impressed

Probably now.

Pre attitude era in the mid 90's I remember Alundra Blayze. Can't remember much else though.

Sable was shit, Chyna was average but had a presence. Lita was good, IDK about Trish.

The only other part would be 2003-2006 and I missed all of that.

I prefer them being more technical though over eye candy because back then generally they were also boring. Never liked Sable thought she was trash (Shamrocks "sister " Ryan though nice).

The only difference I see is on NXT, nothing has changed on the main roster except the label. Though this is still probably one of the better eras for the women.

How wouldn't it be now? We have the hell in a cell PPV coming up and the booked main event is Sasha and charolette. Also, the triple threat match at mania 32 was argued to be match of the night. It'll only keep getting bigger from here. I've never heard of Shit like that remotely happening until now.
