The thread is simple; What is the promo that was the most enticing for you in recent memory? What is your favourite promo? Who's your favourite promo guy?
As everyone does so, I think promos are underutilized within wrestling in the last couple of years. I think it has to do with both the sport changing and the appreciation for athleticism/ability to be highlighted, but also simply because everything on WWE was so scripted that wrestlers didn't actually got over from promos anymore. Recently, I think that has changed and there are some top notch promo guys in wrestling currently. Juice Robinson, Randy Orton who has been able to show more of it recently, Jon Moxley, MJF, and with the managers employed in AEW, the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, there has not yet been a second coming of Ric Flair/Hulk Hogan that has showed up from the realms of a depleting indie scene and a dying WWE machine.
My favorites are likely Ric Flair, Steve Austin, The Rock and CM Punk. All four are quite the obvious ones, but to me they just had such amazingly written characters/understanding of themselves and such a high level of charisma that every sentence was captivating. CM Punk is the odd one out of the four, though, not as good as the other three but as I watched him when I grew up, he just stands out in my mind as someone special.
