To answer your second question... I highly recommend Alter Bridge, Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Daughtry, Slash feat. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators, Starset, Lansdowne. Now, these aren't bands that are fairly new, but have some awesome music.
