What is the female version of a "bro"?

I know this is a stupid question but I want to know if a term actually exists.
Like to me, based on others... One would think it would be "Bro-ette" or something similar.
If that is or even if that isn't the proper female equivalent, could you come up with a better one?

I’ve actually had this discussion with my best friend before. We both determined that it’s just a guy thing, and there isn’t a female equivalent.

As stated above, sis doesn’t work because it just sounds like sissy. Bro-ette sounds too unnatural and doesn’t flow well in conversation, if just doesn’t work.

It may not help that to both of us, everything is dude. Other women are dude, guys are dude, animals are dude, inanimate objects are dude. Dude is totally unisex.
