I am not sure if I understand were OP is coming from. If you look at the majority of wrestling crowds I do not see many "alternative" people.

Seems like just regular people, only dressed in wrestling shirts, and why wouldn't they be if they went to a wrestling event and probably bought a shirt on site.

Not sure what OP classes as an alternative interest. Wrestling is still mainstream, just look at how much it is in the media and how big of a TV phenomenon it actually is still to this day.
