I feel like if I worded it as "I think Cena should have won the record title as a face at SummerSlam instead of as a heel at Mania" you'd have the lightbulb moment but you just read KOTR and see red lol
Naw. Him winning it as a heel at Mania was the right move. They just fucked it up by having Travis Scott be the one to cost Cody the match then turning him face again too soon

Well I still think he either should’ve been heel until the end of the year or not turn at all. Anything else is half assing it.

I think a full year heel turn would be crazy and I never considered they wanted to fwiw so my entire logic was trying to figure out a scenario I liked that somehow incorpatred a short heel turn.

But I agree, he could have just stayed face and that's fine lol

Then we have a philosophical disagreement bc I think that's terrible storytelling that your good guy can't get it done without help and then he goes back losing as soon as he doesn't have it anymore lol

What? He wasn’t the good guy, he was the heel.

:lol I just meant that it's JOHN FUCKING CENA so yes he's your ultimate good guy. But he needed to sacrifice everything he stood for to break a record and then as soon as he starts being himself again he loses the title. Terrible message to get across

I mean I see what you’re saying but you can also say “it’s better to do the right thing and lose than cheat to win”

Not if you want your name in the record books is what I got out of it. Would have been better if he didn't succeed as a heel and realized he was right all of these years to do the right thing and this moment of weakness confirmed his conviction.

Instead it just says, the bad guys will always have the upper hand if they don't have the morals to think it's wrong

Here's John Cena himself explaining everything.

His whole tour was a metaphor for someone knowing they're dying. Once he got close at the Rumble he knew he needed that title one more time and did anything to get it. It took someone he knew and loved to tell him he's going against his morals and values.

He smiled tapping out because he's at peace with his own (wrestling) death. He literally compared it to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

It's as if he's an actor and he's telling a story and we were too dense to notice.

I liked him tapping out, that's an issue I don't have about the run lol mostly just how he succeeded breaking the record as a heel instead of face is my big complaint

Well that and Brock but what can you do there

Like people made such a meme about "never give up" bc he tapped out but a real one knows when he's cooked and you have to fold, I can't blame him for that lol he didn't "betray" me for tapping out but selling his soul to break a record, yeah that goes against everything Cena should stand for lol

Cena tapping out was also a metaphor for his career ending. He was saying “I’ve done everything there is to do, I’m finally tapping out”

Idk how that went over peoples heads :lol

I really don't think these very obvious things went over people's heads so much as people simply didn't care for them :lol

Yeah I like that he tapped myself but the complaints I saw just boiled down to "damn I really like Cena and wish he won instead" so when they're told they don't understand storytelling for that opinion, they'll probably react hostile lmao
