I like soundgarden a lot. My favorite band from that time is Red Hot Chili Peppers though. Shit, they are still around killing it. Them and the Foo have great staying power.

EDIT: I don't think rhcp is really classified as grunge though.
EDIT2: If they're not then I would go with soundgarden.

Actually I did buy a book a couple months, it's a biography on Steven Adler(drummer of Guns N' Roses during Appetite for Destruction and GnR Lies), and him and Slash went to school with Flea and were around when he was playing the bass at their local music shop. Pretty damn cool.

If you can find it, I highly recommend checking out the DVD "Rust Never Sleeps". Concert movie featuring Neil Young and Crazyhorse at the cow palace in 79.
