I spent the evening listening to my personally curated Best of Beach Boys playlist in honor of Brian Wilson and as a die hard Beach Boys fan, I've come up with a list of 10 songs that are not typical Beach Boys hits that are must listens (album in parenthesis)
Surfin (Surfin' Safari)-The first song ever released by The Beach Boys
You Still Believe In Me (Pet Sounds)-Great harmonies and great music
Funky Pretty (Holland)-The Beach Boys adapt to the 70's
All This Is That (Carl and the Passions: So Tough)-Another beautiful song
Wild Honey (Wild Honey)-The Beach Boys get into R&B and Soul music from this Motown-inspired album
Wonderful/Song For The Children (Brian Wilson Presents 'Smile')-You have to listen to Brian Wilson's 'Smile' version, while technically two songs they blend together really well and are a good representation of what the album was supposed to be.
Mrs. O'Leary's Cow (Brian Wilson Presents 'Smile')-an instrumental inspired by the element of fire
Forever (Sunflower)-written and sung by Dennis Wilson as he shows off his wonderful abilities in a beautifully written song
'Til I Die (Surf's Up)-Carl Wilson shines on this hauntingly beautiful song
Good Vibrations Session Highlights (Smile Sessions)-This not only gives a look into Brian Wilson's process as a producer but you also hear the music of the iconic song.
