Sounds like UFC fans have an even bigger reason to root for Georges St. Pierre when he defends his welterweight title against Jake Shields at UFC 129 on April 30.
That's because UFC President Dana White recently confirmed a GSP vs. Anderson Silva "superfight" would be aborted if the Canadian surrenders his belt in Toronto.
No, that doesn't mean Jake Shields gets to take his place, it means 185-pound number one contender Yushin Okami finally gets his long-awaited middleweight title fight (and "Spider" rematch) in late 2011.
"Thunder" — who holds a controversial win over Silva under the Rumble on the Rock banner — is 10-2 inside the Octagon with unanimous decision losses to Rich Franklin and Chael Sonnen being the only blemishes on an otherwise stellar run in the UFC's stacked middleweight division.
From White (via MMA Digest):

"If (St. Pierre) doesn't win, what would happen is Okami would fight Anderson Silva. He's next in line for the title. He's gonna stay at 185, he's not moving to 205."
So not only does a Shields win put the kibosh on "St. Pierre vs. Silva," it also shoots down any light heavyweight fantasy match-ups including Anderson Silva vs. "Shogun" Rua or Jon Jones.
But even this writer will admit the idea of Silva holding titles in three different weight classes just might be crazy enough to warrant a second look. Just don't "Rush" into anything, as St. Pierre has a very dangerous fight on the horizon.
At least we know who Yushin Okami is rooting for.

Still don't see Shields beating GSP, so it looks like the superfight will happen and Okami will just have to wait some more for his title fight. Wonder though if the move up to 205 is something Dana is against or something Spider doesn't want to do.

Either way there's not much left for Silva at 185 if he gets past both GSP and Okami.

So they pretty much are gonna make Shields the most hated man in UFC if he wins  hell of a position to be in.
