The next time the Grinch appears on the big screen, he won't look like Jim Carrey covered in green makeup. That's because Universal, through its animation arm Illumination, is planning to bring Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! back as an animated feature, Variety reports.
Veteran animator Pete Candeland will make his directorial debut with this feature, which sources say will be faithful to the source material. The plan is to put the contrast between Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch's outlook in life as the heart of the story.
No release date is set but the movie is expected to come out in 2016, which will mark the 50th anniversary of the 1966 TV adaptation of Dr. Seuss' book.
The movie is currently looking for a writer.
Universal's previous Dr. Seuss adaptation The Lorax, while wasn't a favorite with the critics, made over $348 million at the global box office.
An animated version like what we have already that comes out every year on TNT. So how long with this movie be 45 minutes? Don't like the idea.
