Powell is going to take a while to adapt into the center IMO, he played as a striker at Crewe if I remember rightly. He obviously has talent but not sure if he'll replace Scholes. You need a real hard bastard to disrupt play, you have great footballer but no one who intimidates people like Keane or Viera. Mvilla would be a top signing IMO as would have someone like Parker for a short term stop gap.

Scholes is still one of the best I agree, but come on, you seriously can't compare 2 wingers (Giggs and Anderson) to Scholes, Carrick imo is crap, but I've not seen anything on Powell. I know my comment might have sounded premature and I know it's a total different level, but I think in a few years (albeit not as good), he'd have replaced Scholes in the defensive role well.

Scholes isn't a defensive midfielder though. Giggs plays CM now, not winger and Anderson never played wide lol. Anderson is a CAM or CM. Giggs is now a CAM/CM too.

Scholes' role is sit back, create, make, move it, and move forward with it.

Giggs is and always will be a winger, IMO he just doesn't sound right or suit a midfield role. As for Anderson, my mistake, could have sworn he was a winger. I'm sure Scholes has always been the more defensive Midfielder when playing? unless I'm wrong?

Norwood is a deep laying playmaker isn't he? Suppose he fits the Scholes mold kinda.

Aye he is, which is why I think in time he would suit it well.

He'll be known for a winger, but he's not played as a winger for 2-3 years mate. And no, Scholes (in his younger years) was the midfielder who was forward creating and scoring. He's sat back recently mainly because he's older, but he's changed his role to sitting back, passing and only going forward when needed.

Norwood might play his role, but the class is completely different imo. You know when someone has it or not.

He might not have played it for 2/3 years but he's still a winger at heart ;).

I agree regards Norwood though, as I say, Scholes is one of the best Midfielders of all time so it's hard to replace, but from what I've seen, Norwood (still young too) wouldn't look out of place at United, but then again, I only see United a few times a season on TV so I can't really compare fully.

Yeah even now he runs past these 20 year old kids with ease when he's like 38 or something. Stupidly healthy for someone his age, Sir Alex says he can play for like 2-3 more years too. 42 year old Giggs outpacing Walker.

Giggs has always been a great natural athlete, compare his body fat for example. He seems to have put on basically none since his debut about 20 years ago, a great pro.

WTF I literally searched "Fellaini" as I knew I made this thread and was going to rant at how wrong I was that we needed him, but that I called the signing lol. Weird that you just posted here.

Anyway. Fellaini was a terrible signing. He is average as a CDM and the position he's good at - CAM - is never going to be his position at United. We literally spent £30m on a substitute for Carrick.
