UFC 178 books Tim Kennedy vs Yoel Romero.

Two middleweights who have looked absolutely impressive in their last outings will be looking to make a farther climb up the UFC's 185 pound ladder, as Tim Kennedy looks to keep his win streak alive against the clearly physically intimidating Yoel Romero.

UFC 178 takes place live from an unannounced venue in Las Vegas and will feature the long awaited rematch between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. But the Las Vegas journal just announced the signing between Kennedy and Romero.

Kennedy has looked very impressive in his undefeated stretch inside the octagon. Apart from defeating Roger Gracie and earning a knockout of the night performance over Rafael Natal, he recently earned his most impressive victory to date over Michael Bisping in the main event of The Ultimate Finale: Nations.

As for Romero, the cuban just snapped Brad Tavares' 6 fight win streak at UFC on Fox 11 and prior to that also defeated Derek Brunson (in whose jaw he broke in a TKO win), and knocked out Ronny Markes, and Clifford Starks which earned him a knockout of the night bonus.

UFC 178 takes place September 27th.

Man, I would not want to be in Tim Kennedy's shoes. Yoel Romero scares me just by looking at him.

Will be an interesting fight. Romero is a top notch wrestler but he showed in the Derek Brunson fight that he can be outwrestled in MMA, so there is a possibility Kennedy could do that, it's what he's good at. Romero also came back and knocked Brunson out in that fight so there's always the possibility of that happening too.

Kennedy's strong as fuck though, looks and size aren't everything. Look at a fight like Jake Shields vs. Tyron Woodley, which is an EXTREMELY similar fight to this one. You have the very explosive wrestler with heavy hands against the grinder who might not be as exciting but always finds a way to get his game plan going and win. I don't think you can totally count Kennedy out in this fight.

There's also the cardio aspect. Kennedy is likely going to have a pretty big advantage there. I think it's an interesting fight.

He can definitely outlast Romero, like I said there's always a chance for someone to win. He does have the edge in cardio, but if he tries to out wrestle him then he's gonna likely gas himself out and it'll be a boring fight from there on out. It takes a lot more cardio to grapple then it does to strike.

If Kennedy's gonna win he's gotta be light on his feet and use his speed to his advantage. He'll definitely have him beat there.

Romero's power won't have any kind of difference if Kennedy strikes with angles. And even if he does plant his feet long enough, he could take him down. That's the only way it'll happen, a takedown will always get a power puncher down no matter how big they are. But fence holding is definitely not gonna work with Yoel Romero.
