Ground Zero: Entry 009
TNA Impact 049 - Slammiversary II [PPV]
TNA Impact 049 - Slammiversary II [PPV]
- The tag team title picture would see Young & Cross hold the NWA World Tag Team Championships for a few weeks only for The Hotshots to have a short two week reign only for Young & Cross to win back the titles at Sacrifice. For the next year the prestige of the title belts would be raised as Team 3D would become the champions for a few months, before the combination of Chris Harris and James Storm - America's Most Wanted would finally claim the championship belts for themselves at Bound For Glory (2003). AMWs reign would be much shorter than they would have originally planned as Deep Blue Sea would claim the titles for themselves at Turning Point to become the first three time champions. A new team would emerge at the end of 2003 - which would be a combination of Brian Lawler and Ace Steel and would do so under the moniker of Nu Found Glory. The duo would have instant chemistry and claim a historic victory over Deep Blue Sea to become the champions before successfully defending the belts against The 2nd Church, Team 3D and America's Most Wanted to very much make a name for themselves in Total Nonstop Action and go on to have the singular longest tag team title reign. America's Most Wanted would reclaim the belts at Hard Justice, and have now been having an active rivalry with Team 3D with their last contest being a successful title defence at Slammiversary II.
- The NWA National Championship would strangely be hand delivered to Brian Lee by Jerry Jarrett, without Lee ever having to compete for the title. It would be Jimmy Rave who would become the first true champion who would successfully defend the reactivated title a total of seven times within a two month period. After Rave's reign the title would pass hands much less indiscriminately with champions including Jason Cross on two occasions, Paul London, Brian Lee, Jorge Estrada, Shark Boy and D-Von all having reigns of their own. This would all change though when Travis Tomko would be signed on as one of TNA's newer talent that would see him successfully defend the National Championship a total of eleven times and hold the title for five months along, with the title somehow not playing second fiddle to the NWA World Heavyweight Champion but rather would seem to add prestige to the National Championship at the same time.
- Within the twelve month period Paul London, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Colt Cabana, Travis Tomko would join halfway through the year, whilst Rey Mysterio, Batista, William Regal, Edge and Austin Aries would all join TNA on the same weekend as Slammiversary. On the other side of the coin Monty Brown, Sonny Siaki, Curt Hennig, David Young, Kid Kash, Jimmy Yang, Jerry Lynn and Amazing Red would part ways with the company moving onto new pastures.
- Jeff Jarrett, Chris Benoit and Paul London would end TNA's second year of being active as three men currently on the injured and inactive list.
