The 2020 product that is Impact Wrestling is so very far from the wrestling product I enjoyed watching when I was younger - perhaps this is the rose tinted spectacles of youth speaking but for a long time Impact Wrestling TNA felt like a company that if given enough time and clever investments could be seen as a potential rival to the WWE in the distant future. However, bad booking and poor decision internal meant that this dream would never take place and now with companies like All Elite Wrestling in the picture, the current Impact Wrestling can hope to be nothing more than a platform in which AEW can use to advertise their own product on the false narrative of an inter-promotional collaboration.

My intention is to re-write the history of TNA, right from the beginning in a short hand form hopefully with the intention of reaching present day (that is eighteen years of history that needs replacing) before present a modern day product that I think would be realistic and fitting with the company that I would have constructed by that point in time.

Welcome to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling: Ground Zero

Ground Zero: Entry 001
(Inception [PPV] - No Surrender [PPV]

Working in partnership with the National Wrestling Alliance, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling chose to host its first ever wrestling show 'Inception' over two nights on Friday 21st & Saturday 22nd June 2002. The main feature of this premier event would be a Round Robin competition which was named the 'Inception Shield' in which eight men would be divided into two groups of four. In their groups they would compete in a round robin - with all the group matches taking place on the Night One. With the final match, being the Main Event feature on the Night Two card.

Group A
Group B
Ken Shamrock
Curt Hennig
Ronn Killings
AJ Styles
Jerry Lynn
Syxx-Pac
Buff Bagwell
Tony Mamaluke

bX_1LFuhGuNrT203N2awaqwg3h3rDRYIsw-sDu_V-eGJ0_cuaJYjCLyfcdrqD-UjZT00UYGoit8i3-3w8Mx8uf-Lv_4Tj6Av8Rhuf-USzcUVJNavmafdCPJOYH2iCLOoZVFo0j8z

- Jerry Lynn would totally dominate Group A, claiming victories over all three of opponents in his group with Syxx also repeating the feat of going undefeated thus setting up a final match between the pair on the second evening of Inception show.
- Night Two would open with a team known as 'The Flying Elvises' (Jimmy Yang & Sonny Siaki w/ Jorge Estrada) claim a victory over the Rainbow Express (a flamboyant tag-team with overtly Homosexual gimmick). Both teams were seemingly questionable, with it being unlikely that either was going to be seeing a main-event anytime soon. Remaining focused on tag team action America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) would team up in trios action with Chase Stevens facing the Disciples of the New Church (Malice, Slash & Tempest) being led by the manager of James Mitchell. The New Church would claim victory, although it would be clear that Malice was being packaged as the real threat within this demonic trio of wrestlers.
- In singles action we would see the debuts of Scott Hall who would claim an easy enough victory over Norman Smiley, whilst Ken Shamrock would also debut and claim victory of Curt Hennig in very much the best fight of the night in a lot of way. The final of the 'Inception Shield' in what would be an exciting contest, but it would be a victory for Syxx-Pac who would end the night raising the shield above his head.

latest

- It would be announced that TNA would host a weekly episodic shows taking place every Wednesday Night. With a number of storylines being allowed to come to life, with platform being presented on a weekly basis.
- A faction would be formed by one of the co-owner's of TNA Jeff Jarrett, (However - on a storyline basis it was in fact only Jerry Jarrett who was being perceived as having any management power.) who would form a heel faction with Ken Shamrock and Scott Hall calling themselves 'Jarret's Army'. For the next weeks the newly formed faction would see Shamrock claim singles victory over Gran Apolo, Hall defeating Brian Lawler with Jeff Jarrett offering a distraction for a cheap victory, whilst Shamrock would cut a number of promos making it clear 'it was time for a change and that time is now.
- At the same time it had been announcement that at the next pay per view 'No Surrender' that the vacant NWA World Tag Team Championships would be on the line in a Fatal Four Way matches with qualifying matches taking place on episodes 002-004 in which The Hot Shots (Chase Stevens & Cassidy O'Reilly), Divine Storm (Chris Divine & Quiet Storm), Disciples of the New Church (Malice & Slash) & Jarret's Army (Scott Hall and Ken Shamrock) would be the four team to earn the right to become the first tag team champions as part of the NWA-TNA partnership.
- The only challenge seemingly offered to 'Jarret's Army' would come from Curt Hennig who would make the point that the rest of the roster needed to be aware that Jarrett was up to no good and that he would be looking for likeminded individuals over the next weeks.
- A minor feud would take place between Tony Mamaluke (heel) and Chris Michaels (babyface) that seemed to be built on the base of Mamaluke feeling that there was only space in TNA for one of them to succeed.
- The main storyline would feature the continued rivalry between Syxx-Pac and Jerry Lynn with it being clear that Lynn was not at all pleased with the fact that he had lost to Syxx at the Inception PPV. The rivalry seemed to not be just built upon the aftermath of the previous match, but also Syxx seeing Lynn as a man passed his best whilst Lynn would respond with reminding his foe that he was nothing more than a discarded and unwanted member of a former faction who had been tossed in the big by his former employer. The stage would be set, with the two men set to face each other in the pay per view's Main-Event for the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
nosurrenderbanner_638x413_large.jpg

- No Surrender would take place on July 2st with a number of other matches having been booked. With the promotion still in its infancy, not enough had happened for every single match to be built around complex storyline wise. In a Six Way Match - David Young would claim victory over Bagwell, BG James, Norman Smiley, Derrick King & Brain Lee. The Flying Elvises would defeat Brian Lawler & The Dupps whilst Chis Michaels would claim a victory over Tony Mamaluke.
OIP.-tPq3K2CmCEeHiUC5sUZgQHaDC

- Jerry Jarret would unveil a secondary singles title that would be known as the NWA TNA X-Division Championship and would setup a triple threat match between Ronn Killings, AJ Styles and Monty Brown with Ronn Killings claim the victory to become the inaugural champion.
- Jeff Jarrett would make his wrestling debut for TNA in a high intensity match with Curt Hennig, with Double J leaving with the victory before his stablemates would claim victory to become the new NWA World Tag Team Champions.
- The event would end with Syxx and Lynn having another high intensity match, although unlike the first encounter neither man had any love for the other. History has a way of repeating itself though, and it would be Syxx-Pac who would seem to have the edge once again as he would manage to secure victory over Jerry Lynn and thus cement himself a place in the halls of history to become the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and also a world champion for the first time in his career.

Ground Zero: Entry 002
TNA Impact 005 - Unbreakable [PPV]
- Syxx-Pac being the inaugural NWA World Heavyweight Champion was treated to a champion's coronation one TNA Impact Episode 005, Jerry Jarrett the on-screen owner of TNA would bring light to face that Syxx-Pac was the 59th World Heavyweight Champion in the history of the National Wrestling Alliance, but more importantly the first world champion in the Total Nonstop Action era. The following week (Episode 006) Syxx would be effectively given a jobber in Gran Apolo and put his championship on the line for his first official title defence in what was ultimately a squash match that looked as if it didn't serve any benefit of the match taking place other than Syxx feel better about himself. Later the same night, Jerry Lynn would cut a promo that he was thankful for the fans support throughout his whole career and that he was going to do everything in his power to win the title on behalf of all the true wrestling fans that knew how important the legacy of the NWA was for the wrestling business.

- Only a week later Lynn would demand that Syxx come out from the back and grant him a shot at the title - and Lynn would sweeten the deal by stating that if he were to lost he would not battle Syxx for the title for the remainder of his time as champion. The third match between the pair was a one of high intensity and Lynn looked like he was on the verge of winning the title, which was clearly something that the champion sensed as Syxx would remove a set of brass knuckles from his pocket and punch Jerry in the face in clear view of the referee with the official having no choice but end the match via DQ which unfortunately meant that the title would not change hands. Jerry Jarrett would arrange a contract signing between the pair with the title being on the line in the Sacrifice Main Event. Both men would sign the contract only for Syxx to disrespect Lynn before nailing him over the head with a steel chair and then picking him up and send him straight through the table with a powerbomb setting the scene for what would be a hate fuelled match at the pay per view.

- Ronn Killings the X-Division Champion would claim victories over Chris Michaels and Kid Kash before it being announced that Killings would defend his title against Buff Bagwell (largely due to reasoning that Bagwell had amassed a cult following and management had decided to give his fans what they wanted.) Bagwell had recently claimed wins over Jimmy Yang and BG James so both men were in fine form.

- A unique feud would start between Jason Cross & David Young that would start when the pair would be working out in the gym and Young would challenge Cross to a push-up contest only to let Cross exhaust himself before tossing him out of the gym. Young would offer an apology to Cross the following week in the ring only for it to be revealed as a setup as Cross would have slime poured over himself from a bucket over the ring. David Young a week later would be attacked by Cross after a loss to Brian Lawler, with the pair taking the brawl from the ring all the way to the catering ring before being separated by other members of the roster.

- The Hotshots would beat America's Most Wanted to earn the right to challenge Jarrett's Army (Hall & Shamrock) for the tag team titles at the PPV.

OIP.jgHHI6JMeh-Qsx36D-V9cgHaEa

- In the earlier matches at Sacrifice Divine Storm defeated the Harris Brothers, Chris Michaels defeated Tony Mamaluke with Jason Cross managing to gain some revenge over David Young by securing over the man whom had been tormenting him for the past month.
- In other matches Jeff Jarrett would wrestler for the first time on TNA by claiming a debut victory over Curt Hennig, whilst Malice would win a 10 Man Battle Royal earning himself a future shot at the X-Division Title.
- In the championship matches Ronn Killings would successfully defend the X-Division Championship for the first time quite convincingly against a much less able Bagwell, whilst the Hotshots would look league below in ability to Ken Shamrock and Scott Hall who never looked for one second as if they were going to drop their tag titles. In the pay per view main-event Syxx-Pac and Jerry Lynn would without a doubt put on the best match in the history of the company with both men putting their hearts and souls into the contest but with the fans being treated to a victory they wanted as Lynn would nail Syxx with the Cradle Piledriver to wrap up the contest before he would climb up the ladder to finally become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion and seemingly bring an end to the two month feud that had been taking place between the two men. With the fans now left wondering, who would be the next person to attempt to make their claim for the world title.

Jerry-Lynn.jpg

Jerry Lynn 60th NWA World Heavyweight Champion

- Following Sacrifice, Jeff Jarrett would lay a challenge down to Jerry Lynn which would be accepted, forming the basis for the new rivalry centered around the World Championship. The build up to Unbreakable would actually be built on that much tension at all between the pair, despite it being obvious who was the babyface and who was the heel although on the episode of Impact prior to Unbreakable a really entertaining 6 Man Tag Match would take place between Jarrett's Army and Styles, Lynn & Hennig with Double J and co claiming the victory just days before his championship challenge.

- After earning his shot in the Battle Royale at Sacrifice, Malice would face Ronn Killings for the X-Division Championship on the immediate episode of Impact (Episode 009) although his attempt would fall short at Killings would retain his belt. Ronn Killings would then have a string of victories against some top tier opponent beating Scott Hall one week and then Ken Shamrock the following week in what was becoming abundantly clear that Ronn Killings had the makings of a future world champion. Only to follow up with a victory over Syxx-Pac prior to Unbreakable where he was scheduled to defend his title in a triple threat match against AJ Styles and Malice.

- Jason Cross and David Young would come to a conclusion that they would both benefit much better if they worked together, rather than acting as roadblocks in each other's career and would go on a run of three victories with two over the Rainbow Express and one over the Hotshots. In other tag team news a new faction would form made up of Curt Hennig, Francine and Ace Steele called 'Perfect Day' and they would earn themselves a shot at the tag team championships at Unbreakable.

unbreakable.jpg
-The September PPV would feature a number of tag team matches including The Hotshots beating The Disciples of the New Church (Tempest & Slash), America's Most Wanted beating Divine Storm and the team of the month Young & Cross beating The Flying Elvises. In singles action Buff Bagwell, BG James and Shark Boy would also claim victories in matches that were put together with the benefit of giving all three of them a push up the card.
- The 'Perfect Day' would do their best to offer a challenge but Hall and Shamrock would continue to show their dominance and retain their title belts once more, whilst Ronn Killings would also retain his title seeing off Malice and Styles. The match between Jarrett and Lynn would last a total of thirty minutes and prove to be an exceptionally interesting spectacle, but because of time having run out the match was declared a draw and Lynn would retain much to clear frustration of Double J.
- Following Unbreakable a number of wrestlers would part way with TNA with EZ Money, The Rainbow Express, The Harris Brothers, Gran Apolo, Derrick King and surprisingly Buff Bagwell. The reasons for the release was stated as these workers not fitting the direction that the company is looking to move in.

Ground Zero: Entry 003
TNA Impact 013 - Victory Road [PPV]
- NWA World Heavyweight Championship Information: Following the time limit draw at Unbreakable it was clear that Jarrett was far from pleased about the result with episode 013 seeing all three members of Jarrett's Army ambushing Jerry Lynn and beating the crap out of him up until the moment where AJ Styles would run to ring to save his close friend. AJ though would be left without a tag-team partner, but still manage to claim a victory over the New Church (Malice & Tempest) in a two-on-one handicap match. Jerry Lynn would heavily criticise Jeff and his cronies for attacking him, and question whether his bully boys would have the balls to face him in fair circumstances which would setup a match between Jerry Lynn and Ken Shamrock which the world champion would walk away from with the victory. A rivalry that had formed between Malice and AJ would spill into a tag-team contest in which Styles & Lynn would partner up to face Malice and Jarrett only for the match to end via DQ after Shamrock and Hall would enter the match wielding steel chairs leaving the referee no choice, but to end the match immediately. With a lot of hatred between between Lynn and Jarrett, the fans were very much looking forward to Bound For Glory which was being pitched as the grand event on the TNA Calendar.
- Ronn Killings would carry on his solid run as the X-Division Champion by immediately defending his title on the show immediately after Unbreakable by defeating former world champion Syxx-Pac. Syxx-Pac would earn another shot at Killings at BFG by winning a Fatal Four way match featuring AJ Styles, Curt Hennig and Malice with Syxx making it clear that winning the X-Division title would put him back on track to reclaiming the world title.
- Tag Team Division Information: Young and Cross would continue to impress and hold an unbeaten steak with wins over Divine Storm, The Hotshots before Jason Cross would impress in a singles match with Brian Lawler which unfortunately would lead to Lawler getting injured. BG James and Shark Boy would form a tag-team called Deep Blue Sea and have an interesting sense of character and charisma to them as a team, with Perfect Day continuing to impress and get a second chance to challenge for the the tag team titles at the second pay per view in a row.
boundforglory2006.gif

- Taylor Vaughn and Francine would have the first women's match in the history of the company, with Taylor claiming the victory in a fairly terrible match. Jimmy Rave would claim a victory over Tony Mamaluke, Chris Michaels beat Kid Kash with his victory followed up by Michaels being invited to join the 'Perfect Day' as their newest member. AJ Styles would defeat Malice in a contest that would bring their bad blood to an end. In tag team actions DBS (BG James & Shark Boy) beat the Elivises and Young and Cross continued their unbeaten streak by beating Divine Storm.
- In the tittles match Ronn Division would manage to beat Syxx-Pac once again to retain the X-Division Championship, whilst Shamrock and Hall would lose to Perfect Day (Hennig & Steel) with the Perfect Day becoming the new NWA World Tag Team Champions whilst Jerry Lynn would claim a clean winner of Jeff Jarrett to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
- Following the event Elix Skipper would part ways with the company, having not been utilised for anything other than putting talent over.
hqdefault.jpg

(Curt Hennig becwme one half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions - ending a tag team title drought of four years where he was a WCW World Tag Team Champions w/ Barry Windham in 1999).

- Young and Cross Storyline: David Young and Jason Cross would continue their strong run of form over the next month. Cross would claim another impressive singles victory over Amazing Red, before the pair would claim yet another team victory of Deep Blue Sea before claiming a real important landmark victory over Lynn & Styles taking the pair to a winning streak of 8-0. The pair would be granted a shot at the tag team titles only for Jason Cross to be revealed as having injured himself, leaving David Young without a partner. Young though would manage to hold onto his shot at the tag team titles as he would get an emergency partner in Monty Brown with the pair set to face the 'Perfect Day' at Victory Road.
- Jerry Lynn and Jeff Jarrett would continue their ongoing rivalry and the pair would compete for the World Championship once again (episode 017) a week later though after Jarrett claimed a singles victory over Chris Michaels before asking Lynn to join him in the ring where it looked like the pair were going to fight before they would shake hands - the ultimate sign of respect between two combatants. Jerry Jarrett however would book the match at Victory Road that would be a Triple Threat match involving Jerry Lynn, Jeff Jarrett and the former champion Syxx-Pac
- The X-Division title picture would see massive turn events as a couple weeks after Bound For Glory, Killings would defend his title against Sonny Siaki only for Shamrock play distraction which would lead to Sonny stealing the win and becoming the new champion. A rivalry would surface between Killings and Shamrock and this would only be further convoluted by Siaki's tag-team partner Yang being thrown into mixer as the four would be placed in a Fatal Four way match at the pay per view. Yang had recently been removed from the Flying Elvises - who had rebranded themselves a M.M.M. (Memphis Made Me) featuing Siaki, Estrada and Taylor Vaughn. Siaki had attacked Yang backstage, as well as segment in which he had attacked Yang at his family home.

Victory_Road_Logo.png

- M.M.M. (Estrada & Vaughn) would defeat Deep Blue Sea, America's Most Wanted would beat The Hotshots along with singles victories with Jimmy Rave being victorious over Brian Lee and AJ Styles beating Scott Hall.
- The lack of chemistry between David Young and Monty Brown would be apparent as they wouldn't be able to offer the same level of form that Young & Cross had held resulting in the 'Perfect Day' successfully retaining the NWA World Tag Team Championships. In the Fatal Four Way for the NWA TNA X-Division Championship Sonny Siaki would lose the title on the first time of asking with his former friend and tag team partner Jimmy Yang winning the title with Shamrock and Styles seeming more focused on each other than actually trying to win the title on the night. In the evening's main-event the NWA World Heavyweight Championship match would have a unique ending as the referee would declare that Jarrett and Lynn had pinned Syxx-Pac at exactly the same time calling a double pin and thus ruling the match a No-Contest meaning that Lynn would once again retain the title belt.

yun_james_005.jpg

(Jimmy Yang became the 5th NWA TNA X-Division Champion - the first title of his career).

Ground Zero: Entry 004
TNA Impact 021 - Final Resolution [PPV]
- The next pay per view scheduled was Turning Point which would feature two massive matches. The first would be a Six Man Ladder Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, as well a original match concept which had been unveiled as ' Ultimate-X' with a red cable cord X erected above the six-sided ring with a red X hanging from the middle. The winner of the match would be the first person to climb to the middle of the ring and pull down the X with both their feet touching down on the ring canvass. There would be six spots available in the Ultimate-X match which would be earnt in qualifying matches which would be won by Jimmy Rave, David Young, Chris Harris, Amazing Red, Tony Mamaluke and Syxx-Pac. In the buildup to the Six-Man Ladder match all three members of Jarrett's Army (Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock & Scott Hall) would be booked into the match, which already seemed to stack the odds in Jeff's favour with the champion Lynn having the benefit of having his close friend AJ Styles also take part in the contest as well as the two-time X-Division champion Ronn Killings in what was set to be an evening of two stacked matches.
- The feud between Sonny Siaki and Jimmy Yang would continue to carry on in fine form with the pair trading insults on episode 021 before Siaki would cross the line by making a racist remark about Yang's heritage which would result in Siaki being suspended for two weeks setting up another hostile match for the X-Division Championship
- The New Church would have a couple of changes as they would bring Brian Lee into the fold, before they would eject Tempest from their group (which would tie in with Tempest parting way with TNA). The New Church (Malice & Brian Lee) would end up being selected as the opponents for the 'Perfect Day' in the Tag Team Title match. Meanwhile, Miss Hemme (Christy Hemme) would make her TNA debut packaged as a Loveable Cheerleader with here later becoming the newest member of Jarrett's Army.

turningpoint+(2).png

- The final pay per view of 2002 that would see Total Nonstop Action Wrestling move into its second calendar and seventh overall major event would also prove to be in many ways the most disappointing so far with apart from the two major title matches the rest of the schedules contest would fall flat on their faces. Miss Hemme would beat Francine, Kid Kash would beat Chris Michaels, with Deep Blue Sea winning a three way tag match against Quiet Storm and M.M.M.
- The match for the NWA World Tag Team Championship would see new champions reign as Brian Lee and Malice would claim title gold for the New Church over former champion The Perfect Day. Meanwhile Jimmy Yang would retain the X-Division by once again getting a victory over rival Sonny Siaki. Yang's new contender would end up being Chris Harris who would put on a solid performance to win the first ever 'Ultimate-X' match and go down in history as the first ever winner of this original match gimmick. The match of the night would be the Ladder Match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in which Ronn Killings would prove himself as on top of the game as he would climb up the ladder to pull down the title and become the new world champion..
Ron-The-Truth-Killings-NWA-TNA-Champion-WWE-24-R-Truth.jpg

Ronn Killings 61st NWA World Heavyweight Champion
- Ronn Killings would celebrate becoming the world champion by putting on a live rap performance at the start of Impact (Episode 025). Ronn Killings would find himself being lined up to face Jeff Jarrett at Final Resolution, which would include him being attacked in the locker-room by Ken Shamrock with the intention of clearly giving Jeff an advantage at TNA's first event of 2003. Jarret's Army were starting to try and make an example of Styles and Lynn, with it being clear that the pair wanted to remove them from the picture that would lead to Jerry Jarrett scheduling a Steel Cage Match between the two teams.
- The X-Division title picture would see one feud end with Jimmy Yang destroying Sonny Siaki in a Street Fight before his attention would soon be diverted to Chris Harris as 'The Wildcat' would make it clear whilst his partner was injured he would do everything in his power to get America's Most Wanted a significant title win. Harris though would approach the title with a bit more professionalism than Siaki had with Yang being give what was seen as a more legitimate title contender.
- The tag team of BG James and Shark Boy were finally starting to gain some momentum and the Deep Blue Sea would earn themselves a shot at the New Church's titles with the experience of James starting to really rub off on the younger Shark Boy.

OIP.1QSd7NTMRwiSqtqTAu3ZPAAAAA

- In the warm up matches David Young would beat Chase Stevens, Amazing Red would claim a career altering victory over Syxx-Pac whilst Monty Brown would also claim a famous scalp by claiming a big W over Curt Hennig. We would also be treated to new NWA World Tag Team Champions as Deep Blue Sea would defeat the New Church on their first title defence, but the more impressive tag team match would take place within the confines of a Steel Cage with Styles and Lynn claiming a victory over the former tag team champions.

- Jimmy Yang would continue to prove himself as a champion of the mid-card by retaining the X-Division title once more with a slick victory over Chris Harris. Ronn Killings would successfully beat Jeff Jarrett to also hold on the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, with Jeff Jarrett once again falling short and final to win the top tier title of TNA.

Ground Zero: Entry 005
TNA Impact 029 - Lockdown [PPV]

- The Killings/Jarrett feud would continue centered around the NWA World Heavyweight Title at Against All Odds. Killings would claim a singles victory over Syxx-Pac on the show following Final Resolution. Killings would also feature in an interesting six-man tag match that would tie in with the follow up rivalry between Harris and Yang in which Killings, Yang & BG James would claim a victory over America's Most Wanted and Tony Mamaluke, a week after Yang had taken AMW to a time limit draw in a 2-on-1 handicap match. Jimmy Yang would successfully defend the X-Division Championship in a match a week before the pay per view by beating Chris Harris before it being revealed that Yang would have to defend his title up against the odds in 10-Man Battle Royal. Meanwhile, Jeff Jarrett had somehow avoided having to break into a sweat and been rested the whole month with it being abundantly clear that Jeff's father Jerry was doing everything in his power to to help his son become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
- Deep Blue Sea would be booked in a four way match and would have to defend the NWA World Tag Team Championships against Styles & Lynn, Jarrett's Army and New Church in what would without a shadow of a doubt be the toughest challenge for the team of BG James and Shark Boy
Againstallodds2012.gif

- The tag team scene on TNA has really started to hot up in recent months and string of interesting contests would happen in the early matches on the Against All Odds: M.M.M. would claim victory over Divine Storm and America's Most Wanted would beat The Hotshots. The four way match for the NWA World Tag Team Championships would be one of the best tag team matches in the short history of TNA and more impressively Deep Blue Sea would overcome the odds that had been put in front of them to retain the titles.
- Curt Hennig and Monty Brown would have an outstanding singles match on the mid-card with Hennig claiming the victory. Whilst Jimmy Yang would impress everyone and truly cement himself as a great X-Division champion by outlasting Mamaluke, Slash, Siaki, Syxx, Chris Michaels, Ace Steel, Jimmy Rave and Amazing Red before juking it out with Kid Kash only to throw Kash over the ropes and claim victory in his fourth title defence with Yang very much starting to establish himself as borderline main-event. Jeff Jarrett would have one of the best performances of his career to date in the World Title match, but Ronn Killings would prove why he is at the top of the game as he would see off Jarrett to once again retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
01-NWA-logo.gif
- The National Wrestling Alliance goes on record that it has agreed a minimum five year deal with TNA, making Total Nonstop Action Wrestling the main promotion in their overall coalition which currently included NWA UK Hammerlock, NWA Florida, NWA Georgia, NEO Japan, Pro Wrestling Zero1 to name just a few of the promotions that had sign up to work as part of the NWA wresting group.
- Jeff Jarrett would take to the ring on the episode of Impact immediately after Against All Odds and make it clear that his desire to become World Champion would never end, but he needed to take some time to reflect on his situation and work out why he had fallen short so many times now in his pursuit for the biggest prize in NWA/TNA. A week later Jarrett's Army would congregate in the ring with Miss Hemme taking the microphone and stating that currently one member of the group had been holding them back for far too long , before Shamrock and Hall would suddenly turn on Jeff and beat the crap out of him before throwing him the ring ropes seemingly bring an end to the group only for Hemme to reveal herself as the new leader of what was now to be called 'Hemme's Army' with Hall and Shamrock as her loyal soldiers. Jeff and Killings would meet one final time for the world title, but Killings would retain once more with the pair after the match shaking hands before Jeff would lift Ronn's arm in the air (with Jeff now having turned face).
- Lethal Lockdown Storyline: AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn would start talking about the Lockdown PPV in two months time - that two teams of five would meet within six sides of steel with a roof that would lower once everyone was in the ring. AJ and Jerry would put together a team of babyfaces that they had decided to call 'Team TNA'. It was being forecasted that members of Jarrett's Army would be part of the other team involved in the match, although with Destination-X yet to happen this particular storyline was on the back burner. Following a singles victory over Monty Brown, Amazing Red would be offered a chance to join Team TNA which he would gladly accept before making a point that he had a great person in mind to also join the team. With Jimmy Rave being this fourth person, taking the number count of Team TNA to four members total.
- Following up the match at Against All Odds, Kid Kash would be given a second chance at the X-Division Championship but once again Jimmy Yang would go from strength to strength by retaining once again, before it was booked that he would defend the title at Destination-X in the second Ultimate-X in the history of the company against Amazing Red, David Young and Curt Hennig. Meanwhile, Syxx-Pac would win a triple threat match against Lynn and Styles to earn him a shot at the Ronn Killing's World Title at the PPV.
destination-x_logo-300x150.jpg
- In the build up match Miss Hemme would be involved in just a bizarre segment in which she would have a singing contest with Quiet Storm with Hemme being booed the moment she started singing to the crowd. Jimmy Rave would claim a victory over Tony Mamaluke, Jeff Jarrett defeating Sonny Siaki and James Storm would make his singles debut with an impressive victory of Jerry Lynn. Styles would also be involved in singles action, by claiming a victory over Monty Brown. In tag-team action Kid Kash and Brian Lee would pair up to claim a win over The Hotshots, whilst MMM (Estrada & Vaughn) would claim a victory over Perfet Day (Francine & Chris Michaels).
- Destination-X would see the championship landscape completely transform with the first change happening in the Ultimate-X match as Jimmy Yang would finally drop the title with David Young and Curt Hennig involved in a stellar performance, but it would be Amazing Red who would climb to the middle of the Ultimate-X to pull down the title and claim the title for himself becoming the sixth X-Division Champion. In the NWA World Tag Team Championship match, Deep Blue Sea would lose to Hall and Shamrock with the pair becoming champions for the second time. The third change would come about as Syxx-Pac would shock everyone by being the man to finally overcome Ronn Killings to claim the victory and become a two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
- It would be also announced that Curt Hennig would wrestle for Ring Of Honor for three months in a talent exchange that would see Samoa Joe join TNA on this short-term basis with rumors of Joe being involved in a major storyline.
08.jpg

Amazing Red won the X-Division Championship cementing himself as member of the Upper-Midcarders.
- Lethal Lockdown Storyline: Miss Hemme would make it clear that her Army would be facing Team TNA at Lockdown and would introduce the tag-team of Darren Young and Monty Brown as the two newest member of Hemme's Army. To make the situation even more interest following a victory over his former faction mate Ken Shamrock, Jeff Jarrett would officially become the fifth and final member of Team TNA before laying down a real challenge by offering Miss Hemme a stipulation. Whichever team were to lose at Lockdown, would force to disband as well as all tag-teams under the umbrella. Jerry Lynn would have a chance of winning the world title, but Syxx-Pac would successfully defend the title against the man that had originally won the title from him. Samoe Joe had picked up singles victories over Jimmy Yang, Shark Boy and Amazing Red before being announced as the last and final entry into Lethal Lockdown as the newest member of Hemme's Army. With Hemme standing at the wings but not actually throwing the punches, AJ Styles would stand up to the mark to become the appointed leader of Team TNA going into the pay per view. With a week to go before Lockdown Hall and Shamrock would give Deep Blue Sea their rematch for the NWA World Tag Team Championships , with BG James and Shark Boy reclaiming the titles on the first time of asking leaving Shamrock and Hall suffering a major loss at the worst possible time.
- Deep Blue Sea would be booked to face M.M.M. (Siaki and Estrada) for the titles at Lockdown.
- Shark Boy would host a show called the 'Shark Tank' in which Syxx-Pac and Jimmy Yang would be his guests, but Syxx would say something that would upset Yang as the pair would end up fighting in the middle of the ring with Shark Boy doing his best to broker the peace. The following week Yang would speak out about Syxx insulting him only to find himself being ambushed by Syxx-Pac who would tell Yang that if he wanted to speak his name in public he would teach him a lesson at Lockdown with Jerry Jarrett later that night making it official that the pair would battle for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in six sides of steel.
lockdown-escape.jpg

- Brian Lee who had been the last survivor of the exodus of The New Church (with Malice and Slash recently having left the company) and then losing his new tag-team partner Kid Kash to long-term injury would claim singles victory over Ace Steele, with Ronn Killings also picking up an impressive singles victory over James Storm. Brian Lawler would make his return after injury and would debut a new gimmick of a Fearless Superhero and would complete this return with a victory over Tony Mamaluke (who had started to become a bit of jobber in the company) that would really put Lawler over with the fans.
- Deep Blue Sea would retain the NWA World Tag Team Championships beating Siaki and Estrada, whilst Syxx-Pac would also start his second reign as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion with winning title defence over Jimmy Yang, with Yang impressing on his first match as part of the main-event picture. The Lethal Lockdown match would be the main-event that everyone had been looking forward too with Samoa Joe and AJ Styles really shining through as the top two performers on the night, but the match would finish with Jeff Jarrett hitting Scott Hall with the Stroke to wrap up the contest and give the victory to Team TNA - with Hemme's Army being forced to disband immediately.
- It would be revealed that Scott Hall and Ken Shamrock had made their final TNA appearances and that the pair had signed contract with the WWE. Whilst TNA had managed to sign Bubba Ray & D-Von Dudley and Chris Benoit as well as Jeff Hardy (with Jeff signing a much shorter contract the other three.

TNA Impact 041 - Slammiversary I [PPV]
- Despite having just become a two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Syxx-Pac would suffer a surprising loss to Samoa Joe on the episode of Impact following Lockdown. The following week Syxx-Pac would have a none title match with Jimmy Yang in which he would leave with the victory, however after the match Syxx would shock everyone by stating that Jimmy Yang had been without a shadow of a doubt one of the most under-rated wrestlers in recent months and so had decided that Yang was the person most deserving of a title shot. Although, it seemed as if Syxx was just looking for a weak challenger hoping for an easy title defence at Hard Justice. The prestige of the title would seem to be negatively effected as Syxx-Pac seemed far less of a worthy champion as he had previously and there seemed to be a little bit of hesitancy of fans not being to interest in the pay per view main-event.
- The tag team title picture was certainly starting to get interesting. The strong unity between David Young & Monty Brown was starting to become apparent as the pair would claim a strong win over The Hotshots, although after the contest Cassidy O'Reilly would speak to the fans and say that he had exciting news for all the TNA fans on next week's episode. Although this teaser would seemingly be forgotten about as the fans would be treated to an excellent main event in which Deep Blue Sea would successfully defend the NWA World Tag Team Championships against Perfect Day (Steel & Michaels) with Hennig currently part of ROH as the trade deal, Steel and Michaels would team up for the first time and despite the loss would look impressive.
- Cassidy O'Reilly the following week would unveil Bubba Ray as the newest member of the TNA roster only for Bubba Ray to shock everyone by nailing Cassidy with the Bubba Cutter and standing over Cassidy with crazy eyes with the crowd left just asking why? Meanwhile, David Young and Monty Brown would come out to the ring and reveal Jason Cross was returning from injury but that they would now form a trio known as BYC - but that Monty Brown would focus on singles action whilst Cross and Young would hope to pick up where they had left off prior to Cross injuring himself. Following this announcement though BYC would work as a trios to claim a victory over reigning champions Deep Blue Sea and debuting Jeff Hardy. Young and Cross would then become number one contender by beating Perfect Day, whilst a feud had very much setup as Bubba Ray and D-Von would rebrand themselves as Team 3D set to face The Hotshots at Hard Justice.
- An exciting match had always been scheduled in which the NWA TNA X-Division Championship would be up for grabs in a high profile four way match in Amazing Red would defend his belt against the challengers of Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Ronn Killings.
tna_hardjustice_2009.jpg

- A number of interesting matches would make up the early matches on the Hard Justice card. Jimmy Rave beat Tony Mamaluke, Brian Lawler defeated Monty Brown, Jeff Hardy claimed his first TNA PPV victory over James Storm although questions were already starting to be raised about Jeff Hardy with the wrestlers unwillingness to discuss a number of issue relating to his future plans. Team 3D would claim a victory over The Hotshots and Divine Storm would beat MMM whilst Jeff Jarrett would claim a strange victory over Miss Hemme in a match that really didn't make any sense despite the fact the pair had a previous reasons to dislike each other.
- David Young and Jason Cross would finally achieve what they had originally set out to do all those months ago as they claim victory and as a tag team currently be unbeaten with a streak of 11-0, but also have become the NWA World Tag Team Champions in the process of bringing an end to Deep Blue Sea's second reign as the tag team champions. In a true highlight reel match for the X-Division Title Ronn Killings would make history to become a three time champion taking the title away from Amazing Red with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe equally all putting on great performances in a match to remember. Much to everyone's shock including Syxx-Pac, Jimmy Yang would live the dream of a total underdog to somehow claim the win and become the the fifth NWA World Champion under the TNA umbrella.
OIP.LGEZE9QitSTS4JjYzVgOcgHaEP

Jimmy Yang - the 63rd NWA World Heavyweight Champion
- The build up to the event being packaged as Slammiversary was interesting, as the pay per view would act as the anniversary show to celebrate the fact that Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has been in business for one year total. Jimmy Yang would defend the world title against its former holder just a few days after Hard Justice and successfully retain the belt. Jimmy Yang would then drop a promo and make it clear that if there was one person that he wanted to face at the Anniversary Show it was Jeff Jarrett which would result in the match being booked between the pair. For Yang this was seen as match to prove himself on the big stage, whilst for Jarrett this was being sold as his last chance to save any self respect he had for himself by winning the most important title that the company had to offer. Yang having beaten two-time champion Syxx-Pac though had managed to establish himself as a real main-eventer appearing from almost nowhere to do.
- The TNA fans were promised a Ladder Match to remember with the X-Division Championship being hung above the ring in a four man contest, but no one was guaranteed a spot in the match not even the champion as with three weeks to go the title would be defended in a contest which would see Ronn Killings losing the title to Samoa Joe who would claim his first championship in what was scheduled as his last of three months working for TNA. The Ladder Match would be booked with Samoa Joe defending his title for the first time against Ronn Killings, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy.
- Other big matches that were feature would see Young & Cross make their first major NWA World Tag Team Championships defence against Deep Blue Sea, whilst just like the Inception Tournament - an eight man battle royal was scheduled for the inaugural Slammiversary Shield with a number of qualifying matches having taken place lead up to the even and Chris Benoit would finally make his wrestling debut in a match against Jimmy Rave.
TNA_Slammiversary_Logo.jpg
- Perfect Day (Chris Michaels & Ace Steel) defeated MMM (Estrada in Vaughn) in an interesting tag vs. mixed-tag contest with Taylor Vaughn wanted to transition from valet to actual legitimate wrestler. In another tag team contest Team 3D would further cement themselves as future tag team champions with another victory over The Hot Shots whilst Amazing Red would see off seven other wrestlers (Jerry Lynn, Syxx-Pac, Ace Steel, Brian Lawler, Quiet Storm, Shark Boy & Sonny Siaki) to win the Slammiversary Shield. Chris Beooit would claim a debut victory over Jimmy Rave, clearly hoping to achieve on TNA wanted he hadn't quite been able to do for his former employer.
- Young & Cross would retain the NWA World Tag Team Championships by seeing off Deep Blue Sea, whilst AJ Styles would claim his first championship in his tenure by winning the Ladder Match to become the new X-Division Champion. Following the contest Samoa Joe would thank the fans for their support, but that he would be returning to ROH as part of his trade deal with Curt Hennig but that he was hopeful of returning to TNA in the future. Jeff Hardy would also be revealed to have resigned a contract with the WWE - although this issue was not addressed during the broadcast.
0118-800x532.jpg

- Jerry Jarrett the man running TNA Wrestling would reveal during the anniversary show that with the permission of the National Wrestling Alliance a fourth title would be introduced the NWA National Championship with the card aimed as being a third tier title. The main-event would be an interesting contest, but it very much told a story of the trials and tribulations of Jeff Jarrett's journey and would be rounded off with Jarrett nailing Yang with the Stroke to finally become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion on the night that the company would celebrate one year of being in existence.

TNA Impact 049 - Slammiversary II [PPV]
- NWA World Heavyweight Championship Picture: Jeff Jarrett's first ever title defence would take place on episode 049 just a couple days shy of winning the title where he would manage to defeat the returning Curt Henning to retain the championship. Leading up to No Surrender, Jarrett would be booked to face former champion Jimmy Yang but the really controversy would arise when the referee would call for the bell claiming that Yang had tapped out - but when the footage was later reviewed it would become clear that Yang had in fact, NOT TAPPED. This would lead to a lot of anger felt by Yang who would demand another rematch, especially after it was revealed that Jeff Jarrett had bribed the referee at No Surrender to guarantee he retained the championship belt. Sacrifice would see the two face each other in a Last Man Standing match with the clear reason being that there was absolutely no way in which either man could bend the rules to their advantage. In what would proved to be a truly explosive and truly gruelling on the body contest, it would be in fact Double J who would be the last man to stay on his feet and seemingly bringing an to his rivalry with the previous champion.
- Although there wasn't much of a defined story to the match at Unbreakable, the match itself was certainly a marvel for all in attendance as the world championship would be competed for in a fatal four way match within the confines of a Steel Cage. Jeff Jarrett would once again retain the top prize, although he would lose a lot of blood to do so but manage to climb out of the cage and escape leaving challengers Ronn Killings, Chris Benoit and Syxx-Pac still inside the metal structure when the ring bell was being rung to signal the end of the contest. At the second installment of Bound For Glory, the pay per view that TNA is very much doing itself to put forward as its showcase event of the year Jarrett would find himself facing two-time champion Syxx-Pac in an Iron Man contest in which Jeff would win 6-4 in what would be a match of pure attrition as both men fought tooth and nail within the 60 Minute time limit. Jeff would successfully beat Syxx-Pac a further two time before a truly epic match would be setup at Victory Road between Jarrett and Killings in which both the NWA World Heavyweight Championship & NWA TNA X-Division Championship would be suspend above the ring with the pair meeting in a ladder match for a chance to become a double champions and win both belts on a single night. Killings looked like he was on the verge of claiming the belt only to be sent off the ladder by way of a Stroke that would be all she wrote and Jeff Jarrett would end Victory Road with two championship in his hands and the biggest smile anyone has ever seen. Jarrett's reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion though would not end under normal circumstances - as he would seemingly fail a drug test and thus be stripped of the championship belt, meaning that during his six month reign which had featured eight title defences he would now he would no longer be in possession of the title without actually having lost to anyone. With the title vacant, it would be competed for at Turning Point in a three way match in which Jerry Lynn would come up trumps to see off Amazing Red and Syxx-Pac to begin his second reign as the world champion.
- On episode 073 following Turning Point it would be revealed that in fact Jarrett had never failed a drug test, as the result had been falsified so not only had he been unjustly suspended but that he also should of never been stripped of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. To make the situation even more problematic it would be revealed that the new holder of the belt Jerry Lynn, had been the man who had devised the plan to get Jarrett out of the picture. This would of course setup an immediate rivalry between the pair with a Submission Match being setup that would see Jeff Jarrett reclaim the title at the first time of asking at Final Resolution. The win would mean that during its time associated with Total Nonstop Wrestling, the biggest prize in the National Wrestling Alliance had been won a total of eight times, with Jerry Lynn, Jeff Jarrett and Syxx-Pac having held the championship belt twice with Jimmy Yang and Ronn Killings only having had singular reigns. BG James had won a tournament that had taken place during the two day Final Resolution event, which meant that he had earned himself a contract that would give him a shot for the title at Destination-X in two months time.
- The bad blood between Jarrett and Lynn was far from being over and the fighting that would take place between them was nothing short of animalistic with their blood outbursts spilling out to the rest of the locker-room which would result in Jeff claiming a second victory over Lynn, although he wouldn't achieve this by pin-fall or submission but instead with the use of a acoustic guitar would knock Lynn out cold to retain the gold at Against All Odds. BG James would give as good as he got when he would cash in contract and face Jarrett at Destination-X, but as high calibre as the match would prove to be Jarrett would continue to prove himself as the gold standard of the company by once again successfully defending the belt. In the lead up to Lockdown in what as being setup as the second match between BG James and Jeff Jarrett, Jarrett would end up snapping one of his knee ligament which would rule him out for more than half of the year and thus he would be forced to vacate the title. This would mean that in two reigns, spanning nine months Jeff Jarrett was a former two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion who had never lost the belt to another man. In a string of matches involving most of the roster in a tournament to crown a new champion Travis Tomko would beat Brian Lawler in one side of the bracket, whilst BG James would be Dirty Red (repackaged Amazing Red) to setup a match between fairly recent signing Tomko and BG James which would be won by the former at Lockdown. To make the situation in more interesting Travis Tomko was a man who was on a solid unbeaten run since arriving to the company and was already in possession of the NWA National Championship and was very much establishing himself as one of the most dominant wrestlers in TNA's short history.
- Tomko's first major title defence would take place at the Hard Justice PPV in what was being packaged as Jerry Lynn's final match with TNA although there was no certainty of the outcome. Jerry Lynn would seemingly do the right thing, as it would be Tomko who would retain the title whilst Jerry Lynn would depart TNA looking incredibly strong with it being confirmed that his recent main-event runs had led to the WWE wanting to rehire him. Strangely enough at Slammiversary II Tomko would actually defend the world title in the main-event and instead would defend the NWA National Championship instead and successfully retain it against Samoa Joe. One thing was certain, and that was that with a win loss record of 23-1 and the loss having come in a four way contest for the X-Division championship - Travis Tomko had very much emerged as the man to beat. With the question being would Tomko still be the champion, when the debateable champion Jeff Jarrett returned from injury?

TNA Impact 049 - Slammiversary II [PPV]
- The NWA TNA X-Division Championship Storyline: The X-Division was very much becoming the building block upon which prospective talent was building their legacy within TNA Wrestling. And with AJ Styles the new holder of the championship, there was a certain wonder about what this raw young talent was going to bring to second year of the company. AJ would successfully defend the title by beating Ronn Killings at No Surrender, and then repeat this feat again the following week before picking up his rivalry with Amazing Red which had originally begun at the breakdown of Team TNA many months ago but would see the pair have a great contest at Sacrifice with a victory and then double down with a second of Red a couple of week later. At Unbreakable a third man would be thrown into the fray, with Jerry Lynn joining the party and also winning the X-Division for the first time leaving both Red and Styles left at the wayside as Lynn would raise the championship over his head. In the build up to BFG Jerry Lyn would successfully defend the title for the first time against BG James before he would successfully retain the title by claiming victory over Killings at Bound For Glory. And would then defend the title successfully a couple week later in a match against AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Ronn Killings. Just a week later Lynn would face Killings for the title once more, but end up losing the championship on episode 066 in what would make Ronn Killings a four time X-Division Champion.
- At Victory Road Ronn Killings would be involved in a Ladder Match with Jeff Jarrett in which the winning would become both the World Champion and the X-Division Champion, but it would be Killings who would lose the title almost as soon as he had claimed it with Jeff Jarrett finding himself standing on top of the ladder with both the top two single titles in his possession. Jarrett would successfully defend the title in a three way match with AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn, but would be forced to defend the title a week later although this time with fatigue seeming to be apparent Samoa Joe and Jimmy Rave would prove to be too much as it would be Jimmy Rave who would claim the championship for himself. Rave would defend the title against Brian Lee at Turning Point in a match that would also see Brian Lee finally have have his chance to fight for a big title but he would simply prove to not be good enough.
- A few weeks following Turning Point - Jimmy Rave would find himself defending his title against his former tag team partner Amazing Red, who had been repackaged as Dirty Red (a persona to fit his heel persona) and it would be Dirty Red who would take the championship off his former ally and possess the title belt for the second time in his career. Dirty Red would be involved in the Final Resolutions tournament to crown a new world champion, but it wouldn't be until Against All Odds that he would defend the title in an Ultimate-X match against AJ Styles in what was without a shadow of a doubt the best match of its kind to day in the company with Dirty Red pulling down the title in a truly historic moment. Dirty Red would successfully beat Styles a second time, before seeing off Benoit, Syxx-Pac and Jimmy Rave at Destination-X to retain the title once again. Dirty Red would manage to reach the Semi-Finals at Lockdown, but he would be unable to beat BG James as his run to the top prize would end there. Red would then defend the title against Killings before he would eventually drop the title to Chris Benoit at Hard Justice who would claim the belt for himself, only for Benoit being forced to surrender the title belt by vacation after suffering a broken arm.
- The episode of Impact following Hard Justice AJ Styles would win the vacant title by winning a four way dance against Samoa Joe, Travis Tomko and Ronn Killings in what would actually be the first time in which Tomko would close on TNA Wrestling programming. At the second installment of Slammiversary AJ Styles would manage to successfully retain the title by seeing off Brian Lee and holding a 2-0 record at the anniversary show.
