This is going to be my one and only comment on this matter. I’ve defended every single time Tony has made wild and provocative comments on Twitter. Anytime he defends AEW I’ve been fine with it. I had no problem with that. AEW scripting Will Ospreay to go out there and take a shot at Triple H, sleeping with Stephanie to get to the top. That is the appropriate return potshot for the comments that Triple H made towards AEW.

I don’t think there’s a valid comparison between those two exchanges and calling an entire company that has millions of fans online and around the world that watch every single week the Harvey Weinstein of professional wrestling. It was a completely different strengths of shots across the Bow if you will.

I get people have complicated relationships when it comes to this topic and people feel very passionate about it and you can believe that what he said was accurate and true and what not but my main problem with it is what we’ve seen in this thread and what I’m sure is going on on Twitter right now, but I haven’t really looked for it because I have no interest in looking for it that this just further divides the toxic fandom. I know almost everyone seems to agree that the continually polarizing toxicity between the WWE and AEW fans is not good or healthy and is becoming tribalistic and yet here is one of the main arbiters of the main company, giving a huge boost for the tribalistic clashes by comparing his main competitor to Harvey Weinstein, who literally by the way got released by New York I think two days ago or so so this is especially fresh in people’s minds. I just don’t feel it is necessary.

I don’t think this makes Tony evil or anything or that it will cause AEW’s downfall. I just don’t think it was needed. Calling yourself the Pepsi of professional wrestling was already a good way to build yourself up and there was a million other ways to distinguish yourself from WWE in that interview.

That’s my take and I’ll leave you to it.

My counter point would be that as a proxy to Punk, and to a degree, HHH - a certain side tried to get a certain wrestler canceled off no evidence by implying he's a sex pest during ppv weekend . They've been playing dirty for a while

I also will say that tribalism isn't bad for the business and media fuels it. N we fuel it by consuming it n commenting it. Which drives traffic and interest

If ur gonna differentiate pot shots because of the Harvey comment that's ur prerogative. My pov is don't throw shit if u don't want your own house exposed. It's also not the first time tk made a joke or cheap shot at the SA culture in WWE.

I understand some will find the pot shots n tribalism shitty, but so long as it drives more interest than it takes away, I see no end in sight.

And while ppl can choose to find parts of it distasteful, I see no reason for aew brass to hold back when wwe has stepped on their throat since day 1.

Again tho I get some ppl won't like it but remember he's not insulting you personally when he's calling out a company you like. Wwe is still a defendant n the comparison is more than fair even if unnecessary or rude.

I mean yeah, it probably will lol, it's just high profile rn because it was said during the NFL Draft, one of the most watched programs in sports.

I think AEW will be perfectly fine and the people who already had problems with AEW aren't gonna watch the shows anyways.
