In an interview with CBS Sports, AEW's Tony Khan said he would've been interested in signing Kevin Owens if Owens had opted to enter free agency.

"I would have been interested in that. He's a great wrestler," Khan told CBS Sports. "I think he ended up signing for what I believe is probably a lot of money. I think that's great -- and good for him. We have a lot of people spotlighted here and he's great. Any company he goes to he'll be a great wrestler for them."

Owens had previously been set to become a free agent at the end of January, but it was revealed last week that he's signed a new multi-year contract with WWE. Dave Meltzer reported that Owens' new deal with WWE is a three-year contract and is in the range of $2-3 million per year.

CBS Sports also asked Khan about the report from Mat Men's Andrew Zarian regarding WWE, Fox, and USA Network being interested in MJF.

"I think that's great. I encourage that. I think they should keep talking about him because he's a wrestler that's a big part of AEW and is signed here for a few more years," Khan said. "So I think please keep giving us that buzz because he's been getting great ratings for his segments and those have also been featuring CM Punk pretty regularly as they continue to interact. They've had a war of words and now there'll be on opposite sides of this huge trios match where you got Sting [and] Darby Allin teaming with CM Punk against MJF and FTR. I think that's great. You know, [WWE] had some wrestlers I really wanted to sign there and I signed him, Bryan Danielson and Adam [Cole] and Ruby Soho."

MJF's contract with AEW isn't set to expire until 2024.

Free publicity for MJF courtesy of WWE. And you know damn well AEW is gonna better any offer WWE makes. Plus why risk signing to WWE and getting cut a month or two later?

Especially after Vince's comment on Raw last night :/

Are people upset with the Vince line from last night, despite the fact that his on-screen character for the last 25 years has been all about firing people? :bron2

I was pretty shocked too but yeah seems to he a big issue lol the Mr. McMahon character was always just Vince turned up to 11...and he's not a good person, but he's great at acting like an evil boss...sometimes not even acting

I only saw it in isolation and it seemed to be in bad taste. But then again I'm not running a company that made $300 million in revenue this year and would rather fire people than wait for their contracts to expire. Also I don't take blood money from Saudis... So what do I know?

I mean, if you're upset that WWE has fired hella people over the last couple of years in unceremonious fashion, then fair enough. I'd argue if it's that big of a problem for you, then don't consume the media of or propagate the company in any way.

If you're getting worked up that the guy whose literal TV catchphrase is "you're fired" dropped a line about firing people on his TV program where he's portraying his TV character, then I don't know what to tell you. Watch PBS or something.

I’m too too fussed about it, but I do think the line this past Raw hits different when he legit did fire people before the holidays and he was saying it to Austin and Rock and Foley, he didn’t have quite the same rep.

I'm not saying he should be hanged by the neck until dead for what he said, just that to me it seemed to be in poor taste considering the 80 something peoples lives his company f**ked with this past year.

It was a scripted line that didn't have to be used. They could have changed it. They could have used something different. Whoever wrote the line knew it was in bad taste. But they went with it anyway.

If a person needs a reason to avoid WWE and their product, there are wayyyyy better ones that this.

Oh I wouldn't throw any writers under the bus if you don't like it, I'm sure it was a straight Vince line lmao

Who's lives did he fuck?

Everyone seemed to get another job elsewhere.

WWE is not the only place to work lol.

So back to the initial topic of MJF; he was right a few weeks ago when he said he’ll start a bidding war in 2024. I wouldn’t count WWE out as much as most people are.

I think somewhere down the line, WWE manages to steal either Hangman Page, MJF or a guy like Jungle Boy that I’m a fan of.

MJF would just be a Miz-lite in WWE but money talks. Who knows what they’ll throw at him

I thought it was classless and tone deaf and I feel that's a fair opinion to have considering context regardless of "hur dur he's playing a character. No shit , we know lol. And people can find things distasteful without watching the product
