I would still put Omega Hangman saga as #1 but this is top 3 , it's up there with Punk MJF

Right now it’s neck and neck for me and depending on the landing it might top it for me. The only issue with Omega and Hangman is it took a few breaks and I don’t think it was as well calculated as this one, but still being a top two story when combining the genders is damn impressive. These will definitely be my two examples of AEW storytelling done right.

The only hiccup for me was Hanger needing parental leave n losing at the first ppv fight. I felt that woukd have been perfect if he won there .

Was still fine tho. It wasn't like it killed momentum likevwhen they insisted on waiting to go to el paso to crown Thunder Rosa

I think also it was brilliant to do the turn last week after she won n not the traditional in ring promo the week after where everyone expected it. They timed it perfectly on the over-run. That was some savvy booking and timing

I did expect it immediately when they left the ring and the overrun just started, but other than that, it was surprising to do it right away and I think it was perfect for her character because there was zero reason left to keep up the ruse. Turning immediately made the story coming out of the show was both her winning the owen and her attacking Mariah. None of the spotlight was on Toni helping her and her being her protege. She finally shifted the focus.

I also like instead of doing the turn the next week we can get the why she did it promo instead. I also like starting it right away so that way we have the full six weeks to build the actual match and not have to do the turn in the middle that build

I originally wondered why they were starting with the Male Owen, but the moment I saw that turn, I was like this is the way, that had to close the show. When you had that final visual, not only Toni bleeding and Mariah having the smeared red on her face, but that psychotic look when she was staring down the cameras we faded away. That was the shot. We needed to end on.

I put that in my top 5 stingers of all time.

Further proof that Tony's best strength is when he long term books and has a plan that doesn't have a stumbling block. He does need to be better at adapting but this story is exactly why I disagree when people want him to stop booking. This has been a top 3 AEW story and perfectly booked

I still have my issues with Tony's booking, but I'll save that for a different thread.

I agree, though, his long term booking is great when there's no roadblocks. After Worlds End I re-watched all the important bits of the Summer and Fall and the devil storytelling was well built and foreshadowed until Full Gear when Tony learns both Cole and MJF are hurt and he has to pivot without planning to Samoa Joe winning the belt. Up until that I loved the angle. Shame we''ll never see how it was supposed to play out in 2024.
