The STARS OF NEW JAPAN RETURN TO RING OF HONOR this February at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas! ROH returns to SIN CITY for TWO HUGE NIGHTS of action starting February 26 with the 14th Anniversary pay per view extravaganza! The following night, the stars of ROH and New Japan will participate in a national television taping!
American fans of New Japan Pro Wrestling have been exposed to the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship through defenses in Ring of Honor rings. The same can be said about the IWGP World and Junior Heavyweight Tag Team championships, seen around the waists of teams like the Kingdom, the Young Bucks, and the current champs reDRagon.
But the NEVER Openweight champion has, pardon the pun, never competed in a ROH ring. That has the potential to change at Ring of Honor’s 14th Anniversary extravaganza, emanating from Sam’s Town in Las Vegas, NV, broadcasting live across the world on pay per view as the current reigning and defending NEVER champ Tomohiro Ishii has signed to make his ROH debut!
Ishii won the NEVER championship for a record-fourth time this past October in Tokyo having defeated Togi Makabe, his career blossoming as he heads into his 20th year as a pro. Since 2009, Ishii has been aligned with the incredibly successful group CHAOS, with whom he has engaged in classic battles with Suzuki-gun and the Bullet Club. With fellow CHAOS member Shinsuke Nakamura, Ishii has competed in the last four G1 Tag Team tournaments including this year’s still-in-progress competition, where the duo has ended each round-robin round with a winning record.
Known for his hard-hitting style, Ishii has finished off opponents with a dangerous variation of the Steiner Screwdriver he calls the Ishii Driver. This devastating maneuver has propelled Ishii into stardom, earning him career-defining victories in 2015 against former IWGP World Champions Satoshi Kojima and Yuji Nagata.
Ishii is among New Japan’s top singles and tag team stars with a reputation that makes him an instant challenger for any one of Ring of Honor’s elite. And for a man as accomplished as Ishii, he surely will want to face ROH’s best in Vegas!
