My thought is pretty much if you can't be committed, don't be in a committed relationship. Personally, I have never cheated in my life. I couldn't imagine the guilt I would feel cheating on someone I have made a promise too. Unfortunately, the vast majority of my SO's have cheated on me
I've also been in two open relationships. While it is not particularly my favorite thing, the person I was with told me in the beginning that they didn't really believe in monogamy. But they told me at the beginning of the relationship. I respected that because since I have been cheated on by scum bags so much in my life, at least this person was telling me at the beginning, "I'm likely to sleep with other people, so let's be open." And they told me upfront that whenever they were thinking about sleeping with someone else, they would call me and let me know.
So the reason I liked the open relationship was this: I've had committed relationships where people were cheating on me, I didn't know about it, and I had no idea how many people they were sleeping with or if they were being safe. Or the open relationships where the person was honest up front about the sleeping around and since they had permission to do so, I always knew how much they were doing it. It was actually peace of mind.
So, all of that being said, if you can't be committed, either stay single or be in an open relationship. Don't freaking make a freaking COMMITTMENT to someone if you freaking can't keep the freaking promise!
