I did remember thinking at the time that it was hilarious that RVD returned before they had crowned the new champion but when Jeff Hardy turned heel at bound for glory I had assumed that was the plan all along.

Wrestleview.com - Update on RVD's contractual status with TNA

It is believed that Rob Van Dam's deal with TNA calls for him to work 75 dates. If RVD exceeds 75 dates, TNA must pay him upwards of $10,000 per date. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he has already done about 60 dates, so they don't want to go over 75 in 2010.
