A title change took place at TNA Wrestling’s television tapings in Newport, Kentucky over the weekend.
AJ Francis (former WWE wrestler Top Dolla) defeated Laredo Kid on Sunday to win the TNA Digital Media Championship. Outside of the indies, this is the first championship that Francis has held in his career.
Francis made his TNA Wrestling debut at Hard to Kill this January. After playing in the NFL, he had two separate stints with WWE from 2020-2021 and 2022-2023. That second stint came to an end when Francis was released in September 2023.
In TNA, Francis is part of a heel tag team with Rich Swann. First Class is the name of their duo.
Francis has also competed for MLW and the NWA following the end of his WWE run.
The Digital Media Championship was first introduced in 2021. Since then, Jordynne Grace, Matt Cardona, Swann, Brian Myers, Joe Hendry, Kenny King, Tommy Dreamer, Crazzy Steve, Laredo Kid, and Francis have held the title.
Laredo Kid’s reign only lasted for a month after winning the title from Crazzy Steve at Rebellion.
Matches from the Newport, Kentucky tapings will air on upcoming episodes of TNA Impact.
