One of the pair of three hour TNA tapings in Orlando, FL on Saturday 1/12/13 will be events that will be broadcast for international markets to replace the February PPV that has been dropped. No word what the second taping will be used for and whether either of them will air domestically via Spike.

The first three hour taping will have a tag team theme, including a Gauntlet.

The second three hour taping will feature an X-Division theme including several big stipulation bouts, including an X-Division Xscape match inside a Steel Cage and an Ultimate X bout.

This has me intrugied to watch, I'd love to see the X-Division Xscape match and the Ultimate X bout.

Shame they don't have the talent nor depth anymore for this to be something to get excited over. Their tag division is absolutely woeful, worse than WWE's used to be and the X-Division is devoid of anyone worth giving a damn about. Fully expect them to do their recruiting of X-Division guys to make this one off special work or end up stuffing the likes of Joe, Styles, Daniels et al in there.

I think its a decent idea, not a fan of three hour shows outside of ppv, but as long as they give it a special theme and that one off feel it may pay off.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL DETAILS FOR JAN. 12 SPECIAL EVENTS

Nashville, Tenn. – (Jan. 4, 2012) – TNA IMPACT WRESTLING announces additional information for two (2) 3-hour special programming tapings to take place next Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. Fans will get the chance to experience “TNA Wrestling: X-Travaganza” featuring current and former stars of the X Division and “TNA Wrestling: Jokers Wild Tag Team Tournament” featuring tag team action.

TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy will make an appearance and will be available for in-ring photos following the evening event. All activities will be at the IMPACT Zone at Universal Studios Orlando.

“TNA Wrestling: X-Travaganza” will feature an Ultimate X Match, an X-Scape Cage Match, and the return of former X Division stars including Petey Williams, Amazing Red, Matt Bentley and Jimmy Rave. Jerry Lynn will also be making a return as part of his farewell tour before his retirement later this year and will be facing long time rival Rob Van Dam.

“TNA Wrestling: Jokers Wild Tag Team Tournament” will feature teams selected at random competing with winning teams advancing to a 12-man Gauntlet Match with the winner receiving $100,000. Among those scheduled to take part in the tournament are Bobby Roode, Christopher Daniels, Rob Van Dam, James Storm, Samoa Joe, Joey Ryan, Jessie Godderz, Matt Morgan, Robbie E, Mr. Anderson, Robbie T, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Hernandez, Zema Ion and Doug Williams.

Both events will feature TNA Superstars and additional surprise guests.

Smart move by TNA to book a final Lynn/RVD match during Lynn's final retirement tour. Should be a cracking match.

I like the concepts of both tournaments, although for the tournament one I would make the prize a title shot at a future Impact rather than fictional money. Petey Williams returning is awesome news, how that guy hasn't been given a job by TNA or WWE in the past few years I do not know.

I like this concept of special shows instead of PPVs, not really sure why they are making them three hours each. Even a one hour special event would be a good idea, two hours at most.

Huge update on this;

pwinsider said:
As PWInsider.com broke last year, TNA planned to reduce PPVs down from their
usual 12 live broadcasts a year. Well, TNA has cut their 2013 PPV schedule even
more drastically than initially planned.

Going forward, the company will produce only four live PPVs in 2013:
Genesis in January, airing this Saturday 1/13
Lockdown on
3/10
Slammiversary on 6/9
Bound for Glory in October on 10/13

The newly announced TNA Friday night PPVs will be priced at $14.95.

TNA Genesis and TNA Lockdown will still be priced at $34.95.

TNA Slammiversary and all live PPVs that follow will now be priced at $39.95.
TNA Bound for Glory will be the exception to that rule, since it always had a
higher price point, and will now be priced at $44.95.

As noted earlier on PWInsider.com, TNA will be doing a series of taped "One
Night Only" PPV events airing the first Friday night of months they are not
broadcasting live PPV events.

PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources the themes for the taped
PPVs will be....

TNA X-Travaganza, featuring the stars of the X-Division (airing in April,
taping 1/13).

TNA Joker's Wild Tag Team Special, featuring enemies teaming and a Battle
Royal final (airing in May, taping 1/13)

TNA Hardcore Justice 2 - ECW reunion style "hardcore" show featuring hardcore
stipulation matches bringing in ECW talents.

TNA "10 Reunion" - Stars from the early days of TNA battling inside a
Six-Sided ring.

TNA Knockouts Knockdown - One night Knockout tournament with the first round
being all stipulation matches and the final four in a "test of their stamina" to
see who the final victor is.

TNA International Incident - One night tournament featuring talent from " United States, India, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Japan & the UK" with the winner earning a TNA title shot.
TNA X-Division World Cup Tournament - four teams of X-Division wrestlers in a
one night tournament featuring singles, tag, six man and eight man tag bouts.

TNA World Cup of Wrestling - Four teams, each captained by a TNA wrestler
featuring a Heavyweight wrestler, a tag team and an X-Division wrestler battling
in singles, tag and stipulation bouts. The finale will be a "two ring, triple
chance Battle Royal."
There are no confirmed taping dates yet for the PPV specials beyond January.

Good move to go down to just four live PPV's. TNA have never put much emphasis on their PPVs and their key has always been tv ratings so there is no need for them to run 12 live PPVs a year. This way the remaining four PPVs can be built properly and be made to be huge events.

I like the list of the PPV specials as well. Really good mixture of gimmicks and it highlights all the different divisions as well.

The gimmick events sound great, so long as they don't actually charge for them as PPVs, especially being taped well in advance.

Petey Williams and dat destroyer plz

The new gimmick PPVs will cost $14.95 each so they are pretty reasonably valued.

I am looking forward to seeing who they bring in for the TNA 10 Reunion, stars from the past to battle inside a six sided ring. There are a few on the roster that they can use but they would need to bring in a few outsiders as well, I am assuming that quite a few will be X Division stars.

I like that they are bringing back the World Cup as well, I thought that it was a really simple but innovative idea that they had in the past yet it has been ignored for quite a few years now. It is a great concept to take from other sports, as country vs. country rivalries are great in real sport.

Charging anything for a pre-recorded event is asinine and very bad business from TNA. Sure, the diehards will purchase to check the matches out, but in the world of spoilers, it's not feasable at all.

Have mixed feelings on this. Agree with them reducing the PPV's to four to give the big events bigger importance. However I am not sure regular Friday Night ppvs, even at a cheap price is a good idea, althrough I respect the effort to return to some of TNA's routes which made then a eye catching promotion years ago. At least they are starting to make big descission and looking to new ideas to improve things.

I really like the reunion idea, WWE should do something similar annually like with the old school themed Raw a couple of years back. That was great, no idea why they haven't done it again since. I even marked for the steel barricades

The reason they are taping these events is because their contracts with overseas PPV companies haven't expired and so they have to give them 12 three hour PPVs a year until those contracts end. Apparently TNA tried to get SpikeTV to show these specials but they had no interest in three hour specials. In order to get some return on it TNA decided to do the monthly PPV concept where it is available all month for the cheaper price. It was either that or just release them on DVD in the US.

Taping them in advance will save them a heap of money, especially if they continue to tape two a day.
