TNA has reportedly changed their policy regarding allowing contracted talent to appear on DVDs of independent shows. The promotion has, for the last eight years, allowed indy promotions to sell DVDs featuring TNA talent as long as the promotion was selling it directly and not through third parties (aka Amazon, Best Buy).

The word is that the company is changing that policy and they will no longer allow their talent to appear on any independent DVDs sold online, even if sold directly by the promotion. This is likely to have a huge impact (no pun intended) on TNA talents getting booked by other parties, which could be a hit to both the talent and the indy promotions.

TNA has not yet responded to requests for comment.

I can see why some talent and obviously the promotions would be mad at this, but to be fair, it's not a bad move by TNA.

They can still work indy shows, as long as they don't feature in the DVD release. I don't like this move by TNA. It's probably going to cost indy promotions a few thousand $$$ because they're reliant on the Superstar to bring in the revenue for the DVD release.

I actually do think its a bad move by TNA, if you think about it some of the lesser talent or ones that are not being given pushes can benefit from exposure by appearing for indie leagues and on their DVD's also they can gain experience this way.

Smart move by TNA, why allow other companies to make money from guys that work for you? This does mean that TNA shouldn't be allowed to do pay per appearance contract deals and should be forced to give all wrestlers downside guarantees. Otherwise some of the lower card guys might not be able to make enough money to live if they don't get used for a month or two. It is going to hurt some Indy companies but they always find a way to create new stars and I am sure they will be able to find enough name wrestlers that don't work for TNA and WWE.

Why don't TNA negotiate a percentage of every DVD?

They do own rights to intellectual properties don't they? Oh right, they don't create anything on their own and don't know shit about trademarks.

TNA is always finding ways to screw over their Indie talent. This doesn't seem any different then them pulling Styles and Daniels out of ROH every time they were thearented by the slightest little thing. I'm sure this thing will change 20 times before they get rid of this rule only to bring it back later with different guidelines.

I don't think it's a smart move. A lot of the bigger names I have noticed enjoy working the indy shows, simply because it brings them back to their roots. But I doubt an Indy show would ask them to come on their show again if it meant they can't add them to the DVD.
