TMZ has picked up on the Kobe Bryant rape reference Abraham Washington made on Monday's WWE Raw. The TMZ article quotes what A.W said on Raw, "like Kobe Bryant at a hotel room in Colorado ... he's unstoppable."

A WWE representative told TMZ, "A.W. made an inappropriate comment and WWE immediately apologized." The rep added, "WWE has taken appropriate action in the matter."

"A.W. "felt horrible" after he made the comment and claimed he simply "got caught up in the moment" ... and realizes the comment could be hurtful to rape victims and their families," sources told TMZ.

A.W. immediately apologized to WWE bosses, including the McMahon family, and several wrestlers and also vowed to refrain from making similar comments in the future, according to TMZ.

The comment A.W. made on Raw was a reference to Kobe's 2003 sexual assault case when he was accused of raping a woman in his hotel room in Eagle, Colorado. The accuser eventually reached a settlement with Kobe and dropped her case.
Gonna be interesting to see if there's any repercussions in the coming weeks for this comment. Despite their shaky at best build, it's obvious the PTP are going to capture the gold so it'll be interesting to see if this comment scuppers their plan or whether they just capture the titles and possibly do an angle where they kick out AW so just him is punished.

At the time of the show I didn't really understand his comment as I don't follow that sport, but I kinda put two and two together and realised it was some sort of crude joke when they're referencing a high profile sports star and a hotel room.

I laughed at this joke when I heard AW say it live on RAW. Was gold and I guess he got caught in the moment. Things are taken way too serious these days.

AW is a legit moron. He could have said about 100,000 better and appropriate analogies.

Everyone knows Kobe did it anyway.

I didn't have a problem with the joke, but if WWE doesn't suspend AW now after Jericho got reprimanded for kicking a damn flag, that's complete bullshit.

AW isn't a moron, people who think jokes about rape are inappropriate are the morons in this case.

Hey, you don't censor comedy no matter the subject matter. Also, pretty old joke AW made thar.

Now if he said something about Sandusky and a locker room, then you got something.

It was almost 10 years ago, anyone who was truly offended by this are morons, if we're going to throw that word around so much. WWE has done much worse on their own accord. I found the joke hilarious.

Linda wasn't running for Senate then, so they didn't care much about their "family friendly image."

These are both ridiculous statements. It's a PG-rated show, not Def Comedy Jam or Family Guy. So yes, the audience does have to be taken into account.

I think the real morons are the people who think everyone should find the subject of rape as hilarious as they do. If you're too fucking dense to understand why that's a touchy subject with some people, you should probably get a clue.

And it doesn't make any difference how old the Kobe story is. It's the subject of "RAPE" that makes that joke humorous to some people and it's the subject of "RAPE" that strikes a nerve with other people. The time frame doesn't matter. Especially when a parent has to explain to his 8-year-old kid why everyone is laughing at the joke because the child doesn't get it. Maybe the parent doesn't want his kid to be subjected to such disgusting humor at such an impressionable stage of his life?

You can make all the arguments you want about western culture and what pussies you think everyone is about this stuff (completely irrelevant to this topic regardless), but don't make asses of yourselves by saying people who find that type of humor offensive are "morons" because it makes both of you look like complete jerkoffs and you're better than that.

Oh for fuck sakes, people really need to unwrap the bubble wrap they have around children it waters down a childs emotional develoment.

Hey, maybe if people were actually ready to have easy to know explanations for their children they wouldn't be so easy to let a TV program raise their kids.

Also, it's a wrestling show, now Sesame Street.

You keep this crap up, in ten years you will have 30 year olds still living with their parents and having temper tantrums in the street because someone said something bad.

Get over yourselves.

Deezy you are a great poster and everything but seriously do you not realize this is PG era. The guy made a reference to an incident about rape, this is has nothing about the delivery of the joke. Personally I laughed pretty hard, it was a good line and it was pretty creative. But this is a PG show where they're trying to keep things clean. It was a stupid thing to do and he should be praying that he doesn't lose his spot on TV.
