"There's a few people that don't give me the respect that I deserve, but there are a lot of fans that give me a lot of respect, you know? Of course the people that follow me on Twitter, and you just hear the way they talk about me. I'm a legend, I'm an icon of the sport. You know, boxing had Muhammad Ali, professional wrestling had Hulk Hogan and mixed martial arts has Tito Ortiz."

Basically. :lmao

I'll admit he's had some part in helping MMA evolve, but there's no reason for him to claim to be the reason for all of it's growth.

Titio Ortiz and Muhammad Ali don't even belong in the same sentence.

Randy Couture would probably be the Hulk Hogan of MMA, "all american hero" and all.

Tito was one of the biggest heels in MMA history until recently, everyone wanted Shamrock and Liddell to kick his ass, so I don't know why he thinks he's uber popular for. The Ali comparison is just dumb and egotistical beyond belief.

Weird how hes comparing himself to Hogan when his new nickname is 'The Peoples Champ' though.

He wasn't the Hogan, he would be more like the Bret Hart or Larry Holmes of MMA, carrying the company during the dark days and not getting the respect he deserves because of that. More of a comparison between him and Holmes here.

Both were dominant in their title runs, but there will always be the talk about not having the competition.

He played a big role in starting the MMA revival but he definitely isn't as big in the sport as the other two were in theirs. He has always had an ego though so no surprise that he said this.
