but I also have zero faith in them changing until they lose like 3 more elections or try to legislate from the courts more than they are now

I can't believe interracial marriage is even still being debated but I'm pretty sure that was still illegal in some states post-2000. Knew a black guy in high school that was caught dating a white girl and her parents made them break up even though he only hung out with nerdy white people himself :slip:

I don’t even think it’s even most Republicans just some but gay conservatives do exist and there is some politicians that are smart enough to realize that this demographic is shifting. This bill passed after all. It wouldn’t have even 6 years ago I don’t have think.

It's still majority Republicans against it, like 39-169. 39 is A LOT compared to what it'd be 6 years ago yeah but 169 is still a long ways to go for what feels like common sense to me

I don’t think there’s a stones chance in hell that there’s ever going to be a serious talk about repealing interracial marriage. I would be so shocked if that even got brought to the table. Let alone voted on or forbid repealed.

I do think some states have it still on the books. There are a lot of Jim Crow laws that never officially got repealed just got overruled by federal legislation though.

Also that’s just sad that their parents still care of their daughter needs a black guy. Join the 22nd century.

I was actually just looking into it and it seems the last one to repeal their interracial marrage ban was Alabama in 2000, it was already a dead law due to Supreme Court ruling tho (unless it got overturned of course)

The way they had to jump through hoops to even write these laws is so sad too. They just wanted whites and blacks to not mingle but bc the dummies forgot other races existed they kept having to make exceptions to not seem flat out against black people

That’s what I’m saying. Not most, but some.

And yes, 39 is a lot still. I can almost bet those 39 are being chewed right now on Twitter by other politicians.

And when the next primary comes around in those areas I bet you their opponents will use that the fact they voted oh yes on this as a means to try to replace them.

Yeah there's still gay-marriage bans or prohibitions still on the books too in the Cotton States (and a few other areas) that were just overruled by Obergefell v. Hodges, the issue is that a majority of Republican leaders down there are hoping that that Supreme Court Ruling can be overturned with time.
