Has there ever been any studies that supported jail time as opposed to rehab for addicts tho? Only issue would be the "small scale" criteria should be reasonably to what someone might have for personal use only and once you're over that threshold it should be fairly obvious you are not an addict but a dealer (or both) bc the dealing is the crime that should be dealt with

as a whole I'm just pro rehabilitation. putting addicts in jail for possession hinders them in the future work opportunities if they were ever to get sober. that alone is an incentive to stay an addict to some as the cycle feels hopeless. That being said, while this is a good step it's a bit toothless without funding health workers as well

Well it's not like theyre legalizing it :lol they just aren't jailing the addicts that got hooked on it for being addicted and actually trying to REHABILITATE like the system is meant for instead:lol I never get this logic when people freak out all the time about "oh so you just want everyone to be able to do heroin" when that clearly isn't what is being said lol decriminalization and rehabilitation is how you solve hard drug issues, legalization and taxation mostly solves soft drug issues (or shifts the shadiness from dealers to the government depending on who you ask but I digress)

Yeah one of my friends dad got popped for meth way back in the day, served a few years but he's now a felon so can't legally work and good luck getting any decent job...for a 30 year old drug charge even though he's been clean for literally that long as well

I'm certainly not freaking out over it lol, I just don't think not jailing people is a step in a positive direction unless there's a step in place to actually help addicts get rehabilitation.

Wild take knowing the current prison system lol Canada might be better but I dont think jail has ever been a successful solution for addictions, or even rehabilitation in any way when you look at reincarceration stats lol unless you think punishment is the main objective of prisons as opposed to rehabilitation which at least again would be honest cause i think most people believe that whether they say it or not

Bennett also announced an additional $11.78 million in support for substance abuse and addictions programs in British Columbia.

Well the main difference here is theres no private jails for profit. Its all ran provincially or federally depending on severity. But jail def still sucks were not Norway or Sweden levels of advanced

Its the worst because their reoffend rates are ridiculously low but the usual suspects spouted lies about muslim crime waves. When the reality is the biggest killimg they ever had was the white nationalist who murdered liberal kids. Seriously the new right wing are the fucking worst man.
