But to comment on the article, I kind of agree but not fully. I don't think you can call kids unintelligent just because they don't know authors from before 1900. If you're not an English major, then you have no real reason to know these authors so I think that's a stupid argument. As far as poor grammar goes, this may be true. I definitely think that being able to write well is important for most jobs but the problem may not be with our generation. Some people just don't care. As much as I hate to admit it, when I was little, I hated writing. Never enjoyed it so I didn't try to make it good. However, I loved reading more than anything so it depends on the person. As I've gotten older, I kind of decided to start caring more about writing because I realize the value and my writing assignments have gotten significantly better grades than when I was younger. I think if anything, you need to convince children the importance of what they're learning means.
