RLStern did you actually live through this era? I was a going to high school during this time. Everyone was a Stone Cold fan, There was legit one guy that was a Rock fan that I can remember. Everyone was rocking Austin gear.

I think I was a freshman or sophomore. I know a lot of folks were fans of both here. However, a lot were still mainly watching WCW still. Booker T was really over here during that era.

I was in a WWE territory, but WCW was certainly gaining steam up here.

I’m from New York area, only one kid had a 3:16 shirt, the rest were DX, NWO or Rock shirts, mostly that blue Brahma bull shirt from early 1999 & that Layeth the Smackdown shirt.

Then later on when that Just Bring it shirt came out, that’s the most popular wrestling shirt I can remember seeing from 1997-2002.

Many were into WCW too in 99 & 2000, it wasn’t down TNA company that WWE and many marks try to paint it out as, it was twice as big as WWE of today.

That’s like asking who was better Ali or Frazier. Both had their own sets of fans going into each fight, that’s what made it so entertaining.
with out either of, we wouldn’t have had the most classic fight of all time
The thrilla in Manila
The same applies to Austin and The Rock
They both had so much star power going into their classic mania matches that they instantly became the greatest matches of all time in many a wrestling fans eyes.
The semantics do not matter , the fact we had the classic matches are all that’s important , peace out ✌

The Rock was a bigger draw than Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1999 and was outdrawing him the entire year from the very start of the year, here are their segments.

The narrative that Rock didn’t even get over until Austin left is debunked, not only was he already over an entire year before Austin left in November 1999, but had surpassed him at the end of 1998 where he was outdrawing him Entering 1999.

Austin could not draw more than Rock from January - November of 1999.

Even going forward on the road to Summerslam 1998, Rock outdrew Austin several times despite not being in title picture.

Rock out drew Austin between end of 1999 to end of 2000
