1. So, the MVP streak ended on Friday....
I was expecting an 'bigger' ending with further storyline ramifications... Your thoughts?
Well, it is Smackdown, so their poor booking does NOT surprise me. I'd agree with you that there should have been a bigger or better ending than that. I thought the win to get a new contract would be "the one" But then i though maybe something simple like winning a battle royal for a US championship shot. I think a win in MITB could lead to good storylines, however i dont think they wanted to wait that long. I guess it will be interesting to see where they take it. This could end up really bad if the fans don't get behind MVP.
2. Regardless of how good the storyline may be, do you, like me, think there's a certain degree of failed logic keeping Jeff away from the ring during his WWE-title reign when it's mainly his ring & physical work which got him to where he is now?
Yes and No. I would agree Jeff Hardy should be in the ring more than other champs. However, i don't he needs to be in the ring every week. I wanna say the first few weeks after wining he wrestled big show, and vladimir (I believe) So he's been having matches, but with this car accident storyline, i think they've given him some time off. But in general, Yes someone like Hardy needs to be in the ring, and not so much on the microphone.
How do you think the Detroit and Chicago ROH shows will end up now after seeing a little of what they have already got planned for the shows?
3 good questions. 3 burning topics on my mind.
Well now you are starting to see the end of Gabe's ideas and the beginning of Pearce's booking with these shows. I caught Gabe's Book of ROH secrets, and he had pretty similar ideas for the remaining mathces in 2008 that Pearce did, with some tweaks.
As far as the Detroit show goes, I think it looks awful. I know the card isn't done yet, so there is still some hope. But look through all the shows on 2008, I would be surprised if Motorcity Madness 2009 is better on paper than 2 or 3 2008 shows. They need a big time match imo.
Chicago on the other hand has potential. It should be good. I'm not 100% sold on this Caged Collision match, however it should be a nice blowoff to the feud. What worries me about this show, is the cage match being main event. So that makes the championship matches seem less important. Nigel vs Aries is always top notch, so that will likely be a blockbuster. I would expect a so-so undercard. Matches like Steen / Claudio aren't something to get really excited about, but could be entertaining for the time they are out there.
Alex Shelley finally won the X-Division title a week ago at Genesis, what are your thoughts on this and who do you think he should feud with that would make for some good matches and possibly a good storyline too? (The obvious answer would be Chris Sabin but do you think there would be anyone else).
I would hold off on a Chris Sabin fued just yet. I'd put him in some quick mini fueds with Divari, Jimmy Rave, and Sonjay Dutt, just to get some quick W's under his belt. Then i'd have Homicide cash in his shot and begin a big feud between these two. Homicide doesn't like Shelly's cocky nature. Could spill into LAX/MCMG fued as well.
Royal Rumble is in about a week and I think you said you were going, although you weren't to happy about getting JBL Vs Cena are you still excited for the show and what do you think will be good at the Rumble? (Any card predictions or anything?)
AM i still excited??? Not really. Oddly enough i'm probably more excited for the EHHH ROH show. I'm not too big on the Royal Rumble lineup. I'd expect John Cena to beat JBL, most likely HBK will try and help JBL win, but backfire. I see Christian returning to help Edge defeat Jeff Hardy for the belt. I see Swagger retaining his ECW championship. As far as the Royal Rumble match goes....I'd say Randy Orton or HBK are going to win.
I think the Rumble match should be good as always. I would think Hardy/Edge would be a pretty good match too. Kinda surprised they havien't booked a hot fued on the card like HHH/Big Show or Regal/Punk yet. Seems like A TON of big names are just in the rumble ( Taker, HHH, HBK, Orton, Jericho, Big Show, and more) Even with those additions, it doesnt make the card that much stronger. But it should be a entertaining show.
How would you book TNA's matches going into the next PPV?
Well It's Against all odds and its not a really a Super PPV. But Here's what I'd go with.
( I Quit match)
Sting vs. AJ Styles
(hardcore rules)
Mick Foley vs Kurt Angle.
Legends Title
Booker T vs. Samoa Joe
X-Division
Alex Shelly vs Chris Sabin II
LAX vs. Scot Steiner/ Kevin Nash
Lethal/Creed vs. Beer Money
Matt Morgan vs. Abyss
What i would set up for at a big ppv like slammiversary is a MEM turning their backs on Sting and help Joe win the belt, as Joe becomes one of the main members of the Mafia. Then build Joe up as a mega heel champ, ultimately setting up for Joe vs AJ at BFG.
