Having read a bit about him, the positive thing that stands out for me is his resilience to living in luxury. As an ex-Catholic something I always had a problem with was the opulence of the Church considering how much of a hippy Jesus was. All the glitz and gold wasn't his thing. Doesn't seem right. At least this guy has experience of living in the real world.

Still, anyone expecting a massive change in their Church's direction is ultimately going to be disappointed.

That stood out to me as well. I'm not even religious, but that's something I respect in anyone who has the option to.

Definitely a move in the right direction, he doesn't want to go too far down the Pope John Paul I route though as it may not end well for him. I have never understood why the church keeps billions of dollars worth of gold and jewels and assets in general, why they don't sell some of it and distribute that wealth for the poor.
