China has pushed back once again to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies by hiking its levies on U.S. imports to more than 80%.

China’s Office of the Tariff Commission of the State Council said that tariffs on U.S. goods will rise to 84% from 34% starting on April 10, according to a translation of the announcement.

This comes after the latest U.S. tariff hike — which brings levies on Chinese goods to more than 100% — took effect at the start of April 9.

U.S. Treasuries, the bedrock of the global financial system, were hit by fresh selling pressure on Wednesday in a sign that investors were dumping their safest assets as turmoil unleashed by U.S. tariffs prompts forced selling and a dash for cash.

The dollar, also a traditional safe haven, weakened against other major currencies in further evidence that confidence in the world's biggest economy has been shaken.

Ten-year Treasury yields have risen 44 basis points to 4.44% this week alone as prices tumble. If sustained, that would mark the biggest weekly jump since 2001 .

President Donald Trump announced a complete pause on all the “reciprocal” tariffs that went into effect at midnight, with the exception of China.

Tariffs on China will be increased to 125% from 104%, he said.

Trump in a Truth Social post Wednesday said he has “authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately.”

Stocks surged Wednesday after President Donald Trump announced a pause in some of the ‘reciprocal’ tariffs, causing a market that’s been under extreme pressure for the last week to explode higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average
advanced 2,962.86 points, or 7.87%, to close at 40,608.45 and post its biggest advance since March 2020. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 12.16% to end at 17,124.97, notching its largest one-day jump since January 2001 and second-best day ever. The S&P 500 skyrocketed 9.52% to settle at 5,456.90 for its biggest one-day gain since 2008.

About 30 billion shares traded hands, making it the heaviest volume day on Wall Street in history, according to records that go back 18 years.

House Republican leaders canceled a vote on the Senate’s budget resolution Wednesday night, as Speaker Mike Johnson came to terms with what had been clear for many hours: Too many Republicans would vote in opposition and the measure was bound to fail.

The outcome is a brutal blow for House GOP leaders and President Donald Trump, who have spent days trying to wrangle the votes for the fiscal blueprint. Adoption of identical budget resolutions in both the House and Senate is an essential step to allowing committees to start drafting and passing a party-line package of tax cuts, military spending, energy policy and border security investments.

The evening roll call on the budget was delayed as House hard-liners back-channeled with a group of Senate Republicans to sketch out deeper spending cuts. Then a parade of more than a dozen fiscal hawks streamed off the House floor to meet with Johnson and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise while the vote on another measure was held open. But those eleventh-hour talks were not enough.

He can't win either way. Corbyn was awful also. We can't please the left or the centrists In the party either way but it's only been a year nearly. Personally I think Wes Streeting would be WAY more effective as P.M and when Keir leaves or is forced out Wes is one ill be supporting.
