Unrelated but just recently (as in 10 seconds ago) learned that the rumor that MLK Jr was a serial adulterer and cheated on his wife was most likely completely fabricated by the FBI (it's still debated even though their agenda against him has been clear for awhile). I always believed that one and just thought it was irrelevant, plenty of men that did good things were sex pests so wasn't surprised

The FBI/CIA have always had a history of trying to get rid of government dissidents. They tried deporting John Lennon in the 70s because he openly spoke out against Richard Nixon.

Yeah I thought I knew about most of the big ones, just thought the MLK consensus was yeah he probably did cheat. Crazy that one stuck but messy gossip stuff is usually what does

Yeah the podcast I was listening to was about historical hysterias like the Red Scare (main topic) and some context of it happening in the past similarly. Was actually kind boring bc it was such recent history so I knew it better than most of the older ones.

Anyway now onto one about the middle ages instead, this is more like it

Serious question (I know, what's the point), but what is the actual logic for wanting Greenland at all? Like what's the benefit other than swinging our dick? Am I unaware of oil under the ice or something

Unsure by the title and just started. I think it's going to be mostly an in dept analysis of the "dark ages" and if that name is even accurate with what we know now about the era bc that term came from Roman lover Plutarch

Ah gotcha, so it's probably the period between 476 CE and 800 CE, at least what most historiographers consider "The Dark Ages".

I think he'll cover longer bc the original consensus was that they lasted longer but not sure. Some deep dives are a lot of time and others are only a couple hundred years with a ton of detail

Just some more takeover or American institutions, light dictator activity but what else is new

The newly constituted board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has elected President Donald Trump as its chairman.

The vote, according to the president, was unanimous.

“It is a Great Honor to be Chairman of The Kennedy Center, especially with this amazing Board of Trustees. We will make The Kennedy Center a very special and exciting place!” Trump said in a statement on his Truth Social platform.

CNN has reached out to the Kennedy Center for comment.

Trump on Monday named Ric Grenell, a longtime confidant already serving in multiple administration positions, to lead the Kennedy Center on a temporary basis after declaring late last week that he was dismissing the center’s board and would install himself as the institution’s chairman.

The president’s aggressive push to reshape the Kennedy Center puts the Washington, DC-based performing arts complex in the middle of the culture wars. While announcing his takeover last week, he called out the center’s programming.

“Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP,” Trump said on Truth Social on February 7. “The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation. For the Kennedy Center, THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”
