First off, while not incorrect regarding the propensity for Europeans between the 16th and 19th Century to colonize on native land and take it for themselves, that's not what Fascism is. This is just out and out colonialism and imperialism.

Fascism's a 20th Century invention, but I think you know that and are just saying it as a hyperbolic device.

Nobody is saying anything close to what you're saying. The government knowing about it isn't the same as letting it happen. See 9/11 and the aftermath.

Like the IDF could totally have had information along the lines of "HAMAS is planning an attack", but no details as to where and when.

Sure, but even conservative governments can have progressive policies. Not everything is totally left and right like it seems to be in the US. I don't think I've ever argued otherwise.

Secondly, nobody is rooting for HAMAS to win, not even those opposed to the war. It's a fallacy to think that if Israel, who has the strongest military in the middle east, who is also backed up by the strongest military in the world, is suddenly going to be vulnerable and destroyed by a rag tag bunch of terrorists.

Its just not, but a ceasefire will at least allow for civilians who need go evacuate to get out of Gaza, or get the aid they so desperately need.

Israel is going to beat HAMAS regardless what happens, but why allow pointless suffering to be conducted when Israel can put innocent civilians as their first measure of protection? On both sides.

and from the ashes of Hamas they will just be another - the taliban and ISIS still very much alive and running their regions. the main difference here i guess is its in Israel's backyard but outside of full displacement, good luck getting rid of insurgency on a permanent basis

Oh for sure. Far-Right Islamic Terrorism is always going to exist (thanks partially to US and Soviet interference), but that doesn't meant that innocent lives have to die for it.

Does Israel have any incentive to stop the insurgency though? Their continued existence is giving Netanyahu and Co. exactly what they want

hey I see you've figured out the game where Hamas and Netan benefit from an endless "war" where Net gets to stay in power and Hamas gets funneled money and unlimited waves of martyrs. good for you

oh and the power creep is just a bonus for ol Net who was in hot water stripping away the courts rights before this happened. HOW CURIOUS!
