The Biden administration on Wednesday issued one of the most significant climate regulations in the nation’s history, a rule designed to ensure that the majority of new passenger cars and light trucks sold in the United States are all-electric or hybrids by 2032.

Nearly three years in the making, the new tailpipe pollution limits from the Environmental Protection Agency would transform the American automobile market. A record 1.2 million electric vehicles rolled off dealers’ lots last year, but they made up just 7.6 percent of total U.S. car sales, far from the 56 percent target under the new regulation. An additional 16 percent of new cars sold would be hybrids.

Appeals court blocks Texas immigration law shortly after Supreme Court action

The decision comes just hours after the Supreme Court said the measure, known as SB 4, could go into effect while litigation continues.

A federal appeals court Tuesday night ordered that a contentious new Texas immigration law be paused just hours after the Supreme Court said it could go into effect.

A three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals split 2-1 in saying in a brief order that the measure, known as SB4, should be blocked. The same court is hearing arguments on the issue Wednesday morning.

But for real, this might be blocked for a different reason that what was originally allowed to go by the Supreme Court.

Texas passed the law. A federal judge blocked it. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals took up the case but put a stay on the federal judge's ruling, stating the law could take effect on March 10th unless the Supreme Court intervened. The Supreme Court put a stay on law while it reviewed Biden administration emergency appeals. The Supreme Court decided to allow the process to go through the 5th Circuit Court and dropped their stay. That meant the law was set to go into effect. Since the Supreme Court did this the 5th Circuit fast tracked a Biden administration appeal and decided to enact a stay until case is heard.

No one told the Supreme Court they don't give a fuck about the ruling. What basically happened was the Supreme Court elected not to get involved until it went through the proper appeals process. The 5th Circuit will hear case, make a ruling, the loser of ruling will then decide to appeal or not and eventually it may make its way in front of Supreme Court. You know, the way it is supposed to work.

If everyone would take off their blue or red tinted glasses and just looked at things with an open mind and God help us some common sense, I bet a lot of this tribal bickering would immediately decline.

Surgeons in Boston have transplanted a kidney from a genetically engineered pig into an ailing 62-year-old man, the first procedure of its kind. If successful, the breakthrough offers hope to hundreds of thousands of Americans whose kidneys have failed.

So far, the signs are promising. The new kidney began producing urine shortly after the surgery last weekend and the patient’s condition continues to improve, according to physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital, known as Mass General. He is already walking the halls of the hospital and may be discharged soon.
