If the Vikings had hired the right defensive coordinator, the defense would have fared way better.

Maybe, maybe not. The lack of depth on defense was also an issue last year as well. I get the feeling that guys like Kendricks, Peterson, and possibly Smith will be gone after this year.

Waynes was above average, just would have commanded more money than his abilities were worth. It really came down to cap space, as it has the last few years of the Spielman/Zimmer era.
