The Knicks getting Clarkson is one of the best signings to far. Dude can legit score he's going to be a major get for them whether starting or coming off the bench.

A series of moves going back to Kevin Durant's trade to the Houston Rockets before the draft ultimately became the first seven-team trade in NBA history, a giant, complex transaction when the league's annual moratorium on business officially concluded Sunday.

All told, the deal involved the Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns. Six players (Durant, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Clint Capela, David Roddy and Daeqwon Plowden), one first-round draft pick (the No. 10 selection last month, used by Phoenix via Houston as part of the Durant deal to select center Khaman Maluach) and 12 second-round picks were also moved. In addition, Houston made a second-round pick swap with the Hawks and sent them cash considerations.

The main component of the deal is the trade that saw Durant go from Phoenix to Houston on June 22, the day of Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The future Hall of Famer landed with last season's second overall seed in the Western Conference in exchange for Green, Brooks, the 10th pick and five second-round picks.

Guard Marcus Smart has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards and plans to sign a two-year, $11 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers, sources told ESPN on Saturday.

Smart, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Defense first-team member, will have a player option on his new Lakers deal to enter a more flush 2026 free agency, sources said.

Lakers All-NBA star Luka Doncic reached out to Smart and made it clear that he wanted to play with the two-way stalwart, sources said.

The planned move serves as a return to a grand stage for Smart, who made the playoffs in each of his first nine NBA seasons with the Boston Celtics. He missed the postseason over the past two years in Memphis and Washington.

Smart has also been limited to 54 games over the past two seasons due to injuries, including to his right finger last season, and he averaged a career-low 20 minutes per game in 2024-25.

The Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks seriously pursued Smart, who received permission to speak to teams along with his agent, Jason Glushon, and had positive conversations with personnel from all three teams, sources said. After losing Dorian Finney-Smith, a point-of-attack wing defender was a major position of need for the Lakers.

The Lakers plan to waive guard Shake Milton to create the roster spot to sign Smart, sources told ESPN. Milton's $3 million contract for next season would have become fully guaranteed Sunday.

Milton, 28, was acquired by L.A. from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the Dorian Finney-Smith and D'Angelo Russell trade last December. The seven-year veteran averaged 3.9 points on 43.3% shooting, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 30 appearances for the Lakers, making one start.

Smart with Boston was a pretty good Defender and can score. A solid pick up for them I feel.
