Really? Damn. That entire era blurs together in a bunch of pain.

Yeah that was done by John Ferguson Jr., who also contributed to the Leafs failures in the mid to late 00s by signing a whole bunch of players past their prime who all ended up getting injured. He also made Pat Quinn take the blame for them missing the playoffs in 2006 despite the fact that once all those players were injured the younger players (drafted by Quinn before Ferguson replaced him) played really well and were 9-1-2 to finish the season.
