oh I agree about a minimum to an extent. Should be low but there should be one.But there needs to be a minimum of what is spent. Pretty sure that that contract yearly is more that the Pirates would spend.

Who's fault is it that some teams don't spend money? Not the players fault and damn sure not the fans fault. The only people to be blamed are the owners. Every owner can afford the free agent deals players are signing, even Ohtani. They choose not to.And I guess the argument for a cap of a max is to "balance" things in regards to market size. Since large markets have a major advantage in spending capital, so while yes, players can earn what they want, it also becomes discouraging as a fan if a team can pay a handful of big free agent players double a team's entire payroll if they want.
