January of 2008 promises to be a special time for Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. Reid Flair has come alongside his father, Ric, and has already helped him find ways to engage a younger audience, the shot in the arm that the company needs. As 2007’s Clash of the Champions went off the air, Chris Jericho was crowned the MAW Heavyweight Champion, taking the title from the veteran statesman of the company, Sting. While that may not have been the type of newness that Ric Flair was hoping for, he promised fans that 2008 would be the most unforgettable year that the company had ever seen.
January 2, 2008
Bojangles Coliseum: Charlotte, NC
The news of Ric Flair Promotions being rebranded as Mid-Atlantic Wrestling at the end of 2007 has sent some shockwaves through the Carolinas, as no one believed that Ric would ever take his own name off the marquee. However, with ratings dropping, along with attendance, Ric knew that his son, Reid, whom he had brought in as a special advisor was right. As The Nature Boy makes his way down the ramp to the adoration of the crowd, he has a smile on his face. He steps into the ropes, takes the mic, and addresses the crowd.
Ric Flair announces that the new year is an opportunity for Mid-Atlantic Wrestling to embrace the future. He quickly squashes any rumors that he will strip the current champions of their titles, and he vows not to book himself in a championship match, a statement that garnered a mixed reaction from the crowd in the Bojangles Coliseum.
On Saturday, January 26, “MAW Call Your Shot” will take place right back in the Bojangles Coliseum. Ric announces a ladder match in which the first person to climb up and pull down a contract will be able to “call his shot” any time in 2008 for a championship of his choosing.
But the announcements aren’t done there. Ric announces the introduction of a new championship to Mid-Atlantic Wrestling: The MAW Women’s Championship. The winner will be decided at the upcoming January pay-per-view, the culmination of a tournament that will run throughout the month of January. The three women who win their matches over the next three weeks will face off in a triple-threat match on the last Power Hour of January. In keeping with the theme of “calling your shot,” the winner of the triple threat match will choose her opponent from the other two ladies whom she defeated.
The festivities are cut short when Ric is interrupted by his son, David Flair. Much to the chagrin of the crowd, David saunters down the ramp before taking the microphone from his father. The crowd’s displeasure grows when David announces that he will be entering his name into the Call Your Shot ladder match. Things take a sharp turn when Ric grabs the mic from his son and informs him that he isn’t going to “enter his name” into anything. However, Ric will give David a shot to win a spot in the match later in the night in a match against Stu Bennett.
Since January 2 was to be a night of “new beginnings” for MAW, every title in the company would be on the line, with the MAW United States Championship up first. Montel Vontavious Porter will defend his title against Randy Orton!

Randy Orton has his eyes set on regaining the MAW United States Championship that he lost in 2007. At only 28 years old, he’s one of the younger members of the roster. Montel Vontavious Porter treasures the US Title and has proven in the past that he’ll do anything to hold onto it.
Tony Schiavone: Randy Orton is young, and he is hungry. He’s held the US Title before, and I believe that he may get it back tonight, Rick.
Closing Moments:
Randy Orton drives Porter into the mat with a scoop slam, setting him up for the RKO. But Porter rolls out of the ring, the savvy veteran buying himself some time. Orton’s youthful aggression leads him to slide under the bottom rope and chase after the champion. Unfortunately, this was the trap that Porter was laying for his younger opponent. As Orton pursues Porter, the champion sweeps Orton’s legs from under him, driving him head-first into the steel steps.
Rick Rude: HAHAHA! Did you see that, Tony? Porter put this kid exactly where he wanted him to be. That’s why he’s the champion.
The momentum has shifted as Porter rolls Orton back into the ring. As Orton slowly gets back up to his feet, still dazed from the headshot on the steps, Porter makes his move and hits The Play of the Day.
Porter goes for the pin as Rudy Charles slides in to count.

Alexis Laree has largely dominated this match, seeming to have her way with aspiring singer, Jillian Hall.
Rick Rude: Can these two take a break from the fighting for a minute, Tony?
Tony Schiavone: What? Why would they take a break?
Rick Rude: I’d like to hear Jillian sing some more. Her voice is wonderful! She sounds like that Swift girl.
Closing Moments:
Laree Irish whips Jillian Hall into the corner before charging in and driving her shoulder into Hall’s abdomen. As Hall stumbles from the corner, trying to catch her breath, Laree kicks her in the stomach, puts Hall’s head under her arm, and delivers the Laree DDT.
Laree hooks the leg.

After an impressive back-and-forth affair, David Taylor has taken control of the match and is battering Rick Steiner. “The Dog Faced Gremlin” needs to make a tag desperately, but The Blue Bloods have done an excellent job of cutting the ring in half, making it impossible for him to get Scott, the fresher of the two Steiners, into the ring.
Rick Rude: Looks like it’s almost time to put that dog down. This ring’s about to look like the woodshed in Old Yeller.
Tony Schiavone: The Blue Bloods have incredible chemistry. Outside of The Steiner Brothers, they’ve tagged together more than any other team in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. They work together like a well-oiled machine.
Closing Moments:
After delivering a desperation spinebuster to Taylor, Rick Steiner has managed to give himself some breathing room. The crowd is hot, as Rick inches his way across the mat, closer to Scott. And he makes the tag! Scott Steiner hits the ring like a bat out of hell, and immediately charges across, knocking Steven Regal from the apron. He hits David Taylor with a clothesline, then another. Seeing his opportunity, he straddles over the back of Taylor and applies The Steiner Recliner. Try as he may, Taylor can’t take it much longer and finally submits.

Stu Bennett took control of this contest early, but after David Flair moved out of the way, Bennett drove his shoulder into the ring post, shifting the momentum. Flair shifted his focus to Bennett’s legs, not only to keep the larger man down but also to set him up for the Figure Four Leglock.
Rick Rude: Ric Flair is a terrible father, isn’t he?
Tony Schiavone: What do you mean by that?
Rick Rude: Look at this, Tony. His son asked him for something, and he basically told the kid to screw off. He could have given his own flesh and blood a chance to win the MAW Heavyweight Championship, but instead, he’s put him in the ring with Stu Bennett.
Tony Schiavone: Maybe he wants his son to earn something, Rick. Ric Flair bled and sweated to get to the top of this industry, and he’s allowing his son to try to climb the mountain the same way.
Closing Moments:
Flair continues to focus on Bennett’s knee, as he finally goes for the Figure Four. But Bennett manages to stop him. Stu pushes David away with a kick to the small of his back, driving Flair into the corner. He gets to his feet just as Flair turns around and delivers a Bullhammer! Flair crumples to the mat, as Bennett goes for the pin.

Backstage, Ric Flair is in his office going over plans for the next month with Commissioner JJ Dillon, when they are interrupted as the door flies open. MAW Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho stomps toward Flair’s desk outraged that he’s being thrown into a title defense with so little notice. Ric, unphased by Jericho’s complaints, explains that he’s the man who makes the rules. He decides when and where that title on Jericho’s shoulder gets defended, and he decided that it is going to be defended tonight in Charlotte. Jericho fumes, demanding to know who his opponent is going to be. He points out that he took the title from Sting 2 weeks prior, and insists that Sting shouldn’t have a rematch so soon. To his surprise, Flair agrees. No, Sting is not going to be Jericho’s opponent tonight.
Instead, Jericho is going to defend his title against one of the most technically sound wrestlers in MAW: Chad Collyer, a man who trained under Dean Malenko.

Jericho and Collyer have traded submission holds throughout the match, with each man focusing on the other's back and legs. Jericho has landed a Code Breaker, but Collyer managed to get a foot on the ropes just as the MAW Heavyweight Champion was about to seal the deal.
Tony Schiavone: It’s worth mentioning, that Jericho has a history with the man who trained Chad Collyer, Dean Malenko. Several years back, Jericho spent some time in Florida where he and Malenko, one of the greatest technicians ever, battled.
Rick Rude: I heard that Jericho taught Malenko a few moves while he was there. They say he came in with a list.
Closing Moments:
Collyer has taken control of the match and has Jericho in position for the Texas Cloverleaf. As he goes to apply the hold, Jericho gets to the rope and uses the strength that he still has left to trip Collyer throat-first into the middle rope. This gives Jericho all the space he needs to grab Collyer’s legs and apply The Walls of Jericho. Collyer tries to reach for the ropes, but he’s simply too far away and is forced to tap out.

Closing Moments
Both women are absolutely spent after 16 minutes have passed in the match. They’ve traded blows, submission holds, and everything else that they can think of. In the final moments of the match, Del Ray goes for a lariat, but Taylor ducks! She grabs Del Ray and delivers a Northern Lights Suplex, and immediately hooks the leg.

Chris Jericho comes to the ring, bragging about his recent title defense against Chad Collyer, though Jericho seems to have forgotten the challenger’s name. Jericho explains to the crowd in Greensboro just how lucky they are to be in the presence of a living legend, a man who has wrestled all over the globe, a champion who they can finally be proud of. Jericho elaborates, “In fact, you are in the presence of an ICON!” That’s when the lights go out. The crowd in the Greensboro Coliseum comes alive, as they know that a pitch-black arena can only mean one thing: Tony Schiavone exclaims, “IT’S STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!”
The lights come up as Sting makes his way to the ring, his signature baseball bat in his hand. He steps through the ropes, plants the end of the bat in Jericho’s chest, and motions for the microphone.
Sting says that he watched Jericho’s match last week and that he was even impressed by the way that Jericho handled a last-minute opponent. But, January is all about “calling your shot.” Sting points out that according to the rules, former champions have the right to a rematch after they lose their title. With that in mind, Sting informs Jericho that he’s “calling his shot,” and on January 26, he’s going to take his title back, and remind Jericho that there’s only one icon in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling.
That’s when we’re greeted once again by the familiar music of “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Flair comes out to the top of the entrance ramp, a mic in hand. He acknowledges that Sting is correct; when a champion loses his title, he is entitled to a rematch. With that in mind, Ric Flair books the MAW World Championship match for Call Your Shot. He walks away as Sting exits the ring, leaving a seething Chris Jericho behind.

Nick Aldis vs. CW Anderson

The crowd is firmly behind CW Anderson, the North Carolina native. He and Anderson have engaged in an old-school fight, not a wrestling match. They’ve battered one another, and Aldis has already kicked out of a Spinebuster from Anderson.
Tony Schiavone: CW Anderson certainly has the experience edge on Aldis.
Rick Rude: You mean he’s old? That’s what it means when people say he has the experience.
Tony Schiavone: No, I meant he’s been in matches like this. He’s a brawler. He’s battle-tested.
Nick Aldis whips Anderson into the ropes and delivers a crushing spinebuster of his own.
Rick Rude: I’m not sure he has ever faced a test like this. Look what Aldis is doing to him.
Closing Moments
After CW Anderson inadvertently took out Mickey Henson after Nick Aldis ducked a clothesline, Aldis resorted to some underhanded tactics, delivering a low blow to his opponent. This took Anderson to the ground, as Aldis applies the King’s Lynn Cloverleaf. But Anderson inches toward the ropes! He’s only a finger’s length away, but Aldis uses his superior strength to drag Anderson back to the center of the ring where he taps out.
Nick Aldis def. CW Anderson Earn a Spot in the Call Your Shot Ladder Match
Ric Flair is once again backstage with JJ Dillon, talking to other MAW officials about the show when they’re interrupted once again. David Flair asks if he can speak to his dad for a minute, and Ric reminds him that when they’re in the arena, he’s Ric, not Dad. David begins pleading his case for another shot to get into the Call Your Shot Ladder Match, but Ric shoots him down, telling him that he already had a qualifying match, and he lost. But, it would be an absolute shame if the crowd in Greensboro, NC didn’t get to see another Flair vs. Sting main event. With that, Ric books David Flair vs. Sting for later in the night.

Excellence Incorporated (Michael Modest and Donovan Morgan) vs. God’s Gift to Women (Idol Stevens and Johnny Lust)

Excellence Incorporated has been in control of most of this match, with Donovan Morgan largely imposing his will on both members of God’s Gift to Women. After knocking Idol Stevens from the apron, he turned his attention back to Johnny Lust, who is in the corner. Just as he goes to charge in, Stevens grabs his ankle from the outside of the ring, allowing Lust to charge in and deliver a dropkick to the back. Lust makes the tag to Idol Stevens.
Rick Rude: Tony, you wouldn’t understand this, but I do. It’s nearly impossible for Stevens and Lust to focus in a match like this, knowing that every woman in the building wants to be with you. It’s a serious distraction.
Closing Moments
As Lust and Stevens double-team Michael Modest in the corner, the referee is caught up in trying to keep the towering Donovan Morgan out of the ring, allowing arguably the most hated duo in MAW to pummel and choke Modest. Lust delivers one more cheap shot before running around the ring and swiping Morgan’s legs out from under him. This allows Stevens to deliver a Snap Swinging Neckbreaker before he goes for the pin.

The crowd is absolutely electric as Sting batters David Flair around the ring, even following him to the outside, where he bounces the younger Flair’s head off the security railing. Outside of a short burst following a poke to the eyes, Flair hasn’t really mounted much offense at all in this one.
Tony Schiavone: Is there anything better than seeing a Sting-Flair match in Greensboro? This is what MAW is about.
Rick Rude: I can think of at least 100 things better than seeing Sting in a match, Tony. I don’t even know why he’s still here.
Closing Moments
The crowd isn’t even bothered by the fact that the main event hasn’t been competitive. They’ve loved seeing Sting vs. Flair in the main event again, even if it’s David. With Flair cornered, pleading for mercy, Sting picks his battered opponent up by the hair and hits him with a Scorpion Death Drop. The Stinger goes for the pin, but it’s all a technicality.

As Sting makes his way around the ring high-fiving and shaking hands with the fans, a hooded individual lunges forward and delivers a cheap shot, knocking Sting to the ground. The man pulls the hood back to reveal his face. It’s Chris Jericho! He leaps over the security railing, a chair in hand, and batters Sting until security and MAW officials manage to pull him away.
The camera fades out as Jericho stands over Sting, a sick smile on his face.

Vito and Michaels have traded momentum throughout the match, but Vito is the one who currently has the edge. With Michaels down on the mat, Vito climbs up to the second turnbuckle and delivers a jumping stomp to the knee. He climbs up and repeats it.
Tony Schiavone: You have to appreciate what Vito is doing here. If he takes out the knee, it’s going to be impossible for Michaels to land the superkick.
Rick Rude: Vito is a big dude, Tony. He’s a big dude who doesn’t care to break some kneecaps. This Michaels kid doesn’t stand a chance.
As Vito launches into the air for the third time, Michaels rolls out of the way, causing Vito to land awkwardly.
Closing Moments
Michaels pulls himself up by the top rope, favoring his knee as Vito also limps to his feet. Michaels takes two steps forward and connects with a Superkick!

At only 30 years of age, Elijah Burke is looking to carve out a name for himself in MAW. Bagwell has 8 years on him, and some experience, but the two have been embroiled in an incredibly even matchup.
Tony Schiavone: Elijah Burke is an accomplished boxer. He came into professional wrestling with a record of 98-1.
Rick Rude: And how much good is that doing him now, Tony? Huh? Buff is whipping this kid all over the ring.
Tony Schiavone: Are we watching the same match? Elijah has held his own with Bagwell just fine, and one of these two men is going to earn a chance to call his shot in a couple of weeks.
Rick Rude: Held his own. Please. Bagwell is just toying with him. It’s like a cat with a mouse before it kills it.
Closing Moments
Bagwell, using his sheer power, is abusing Burke in the corner. He drapes one of Burke’s legs over the middle rope, and runs forward, delivering a crushing kick to his thigh, all in an effort to slow the more agile man down. As Burke crumples to the mat, Bagwell climbs onto the middle rope, waiting for Burke to get back to his feet. He seems to be going for the Buff Blockbuster. Burke is up, and Bagwell takes flight. BUT BURKE CATCHES HIM! He hits him with the Elijah Effect in mid-air, driving Bagwell face-first into the mat. Burke hooks the leg.

Perhaps the most evenly-matched opening round bout for the inaugural MAW Women’s Championship, Moretti and Greenwald have been battling for 17 minutes. Greenwald has the full support of the crowd.
Tony Schiavone: These two ladies have to be thinking about the clock.
Rick Rude: Nothing to worry about at all. Lisa Moretti is about to slap that stupid smile off of Greenwald’s face.
Closing Moments
With Moretti stretched out on the mat, Greenwald hits the Flipping Seated Senton! But Moretti is close to the ropes, and she wisely rolls out to the floor.
DING! DING! DING!
Rick Rude: Moretti wins! Moretti moves on!
Tony Schiavone: What in the hell are you talking about? She’s not even in the ring. Did she get counted out?
Greenwald stands up, confused, as Moretti struggles back to her feet on the outside. Andrew Thomas goes over to the timekeeper’s table before the announcement comes. TIME HAS EXPIRED! For a moment, no one knows what to do. That’s when Commissioner JJ Dillon appears at the top of the ramp.
JJ Dillon: We have to have a winner in this match. Under the authority of Ric Flair, this match is restarting…RIGHT NOW!
Greenwald doesn’t know that Moretti has rolled back into the ring behind her. Lisa kicks Nora in the stomach and delivers a Sitout Facebuster and goes for the pin.

Two of the toughest men in MAW have put on the kind of fight you would expect from them. They’ve battled in the ring, out of the ring, and for a moment, spilled over into the crowd. Mickey Henson has done everything in his power to get them back into the ring, but Finlay has brought a chair in with him.
DDP is on the mat, starting to get back to his feet, and Finlay picks the chair up over his head. He’s going to get himself disqualified! Henson grabs the chair, but as he slides it out of the ring, Finlay picks up the shillelagh, and he smashes it across the ribs of Page! He throws it to the side and goes for the pin.
Rick Rude: HAHAHAHA! That’ll keep this moron Page down.

Closing Moments
Both men are back to their feet, but Page is clearly hurting. Finlay charges in for a running knee lift, but Page gets out of the way. Finally, off the ropes, Page catches him…DIAMOND CUTTER!

Up to this point, the match has been a clash of two styles. The Blue Bloods have tried to slow the pace down, working submission holds, and cutting the ring in half. Meanwhile, The Midnight Riders have focused on striking and quick tags.
Rick Rude: The Blue Bloods may be the best tag team in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. Do you see how effortlessly they're controlling this match?
Closing Moments
Dinsmore has finally made a tag, and Conway has entered the match with a full head of steam. After knocking Regal from the apron with a massive boot to the face, Conway whips Taylor into the corner, where he hits the turnbuckle chest-first with a mighty thud. As he staggers backward, Conway is setting him up. Taylor turns around and eats a Conway Cutter! Conway hooks the leg as Dinsmore runs into the ring to cut off Regal who is trying to break up the pin.

Driven by his massive ego, Chris Jericho has done everything within his power to get the upper hand, but he just can’t keep Orton down. Finally, after a poke to the eyes, Jericho hits Orton with a flying forearm, before quickly following it up with his patented Lionsault. He quickly goes for the pin, but Orton powers out before Rudy Charles can even make a one count. The younger Orton just won’t say down!
Tony Schiavone: And that is the man who is this company’s champion. A man who has to resort to tactics like that.
Rick Rude: You mean a man who is smart enough to use every resource he has? That’s the kind of champion we need!
Closing Moments
Back to his feet, Orton begins trading forearm blows to the head with Jericho. He shoves the veteran into the ropes, and ducks under a clothesline attempt. On Jericho’s rebound, he launches into the air for a shoulder block, but Orton catches him with an RKO! Orton hooks the leg.

Randy Orton climbs up onto the second turnbuckle to celebrate with the crowd as Jericho jerks his championship belt from the hands of the official who is checking on him. Overcome with rage, Jericho gets up and runs at Orton, smashing him in the kidneys with the MAW Championship Belt.
Tony Schiavone: What an absolute coward!
Jericho continues to assault Orton who is on the mat, delivering a series of boots to his head. Cowboy Bob Orton jumps into the ring to help his son and receives a right hook for his trouble.
Rick Rude: That’s what the old prick gets for trying to interject himself into something that doesn’t concern him. Get him, Chris!
As Jericho stands over a fallen Randy Orton, his MAW Heavyweight Championship belt high over his head, the crowd’s jeering quickly turns to adulation, as Sting makes his way through the crowd, and sneaks up behind Jericho. Jericho senses someone behind him. He slowly turns around and catches a baseball bat to the stomach. Sting delivers another blow across Jericho’s back, driving the champion to the mat. Picking Jericho up by the hair, Sting turns the champion over and delivers a Scorpion Death Drop. He reaches down, picks up the title, and raises it in the air as Jericho rolls around on the mat, holding his abdomen as the show goes off the air.

Winthrop Coliseum: Rock Hill, SC
Ric Flair and Commissioner JJ Dillon make their way to the ring to open the show. Ric Flair announces that since we now have a US Title match set for Call Your Shot, and we have a Heavyweight Championship match set for Call Your Shot, there are still a couple of pieces of business that have to be taken care of. Alexis Laree, Shantelle Taylor, and Lisa Moretti will compete in a triple-threat match tonight. The winner of that match will get to call her shot, choosing her opponent for the pay-per-view. Secondly, there’s still one ladder match qualifier that has to take place, and it will feature Ken Anderson and Lex Luger. There’s also the issue of us not having a MAW Tag Team Championship match for Call Your Shot, which is only three days away. The Midnight Riders and God’s Gift to Women, both of whom have recently won matches, will face off to determine who will face The Steiner Brothers. With that, Ric says that it’s time to get to the action.
Match 1:

(Winner earns a spot in the Call Your Shot Ladder Match at the upcoming PPV)
Luger has taken control of this one after slamming Anderson on the mat and quickly following it up with an elbow drop.
Tony Schiavone: Lex Luger driving that massive arm into the chest of Anderson.
Rick Rude: Guess you can get arms like that when you use…let’s say artificial enhancement. Luger is a fraud.
Tony Schiavone: Lex Luger is one of the most respected members of this roster.
Rick Rude: Only by idiots like you and these fans.
Luger picks Anderson up from the mat, and he goes for the Torture Rack! But Anderson manages to slide out of it and rolls to the outside. As Luger goes over to bring him back in, Anderson snaps Luger’s neck over the top rope.
Closing Moments
Rick Rude: Lex Luger shouldn’t even be in this match. Like anyone wants to see his old carcass calling a shot and taking a spot from a young guy like Anderson.
As Lex Luger whips Anderson into the ropes, Ken manages to duck a clothesline attempt, then dodges another. On the third pass, Anderson connects with a massive jumping knee to the jaw, knocking Luger to his back. Anderson climbs to the top rope, launches himself into the air, and hits a Kenton Bomb!
Tony Schiavone: That may be it!

As God’s Gift to Women stands in the ring, waiting for their opponents, The Midnight Riders’ music hits, but they never appear. The crowd waits, a bit confused by the event, but we’re quickly taken backstage where Rob Conway is kneeling over a blooded Nick Dinsmore, calling for help. Ric Flair and JJ Dillon, along with several other MAW officials rush to the scene. JJ asks Ric if he wants him to find another tag team to send out, or just declare God’s Gift to Women as the winners, but Ric tells him that he will figure something out.
Match 2

Chad Collyer vs. Finlay

Tony Schiavone: Folks, I have to be honest in telling you that we’re not sure what’s going on. This was supposed to be a tag team match, but someone has attacked Nick Dinsmore, so it looks like Finlay and Chad Collyer are going to square off in an impromptu match. But it’s a great chance for Collyer to prove something tonight.
Finally and Collyer continue trading submissions, seamlessly rolling from one move into the next until Finlay finally catches Collyer with a huge left hook, driving the younger man to the mat. This momentum shift gives Finlay the space that he needs to go for the Celtic Cross. Somehow, Collyer manages to get to the rope to force a break, but Finlay holds the hold until the ref’s count reaches 4.
Rick Rude: Finlay knows how to wear somebody down, doesn't he, Tony?
Tony Schiavone: Well, he certainly knows how to almost get himself disqualified.
Rick Rude: Exactly. "Almost." He has until 5 and he broke the hold at 4. That's just being smart.
Closing Moments
Still feeling the effects of the Celtic Cross, Collyer has managed to get back to his feet. With a flurry of rights and left, he’s driven Finlay into the corner. He steps up onto the second turnbuckle and begins punching Finlay as the crowd counts along. Before he can get to 10, Finlay powers out, driving him to the mat with a powerbomb. But Finlay hesitates to taunt the crowd who is firmly behind Collyer. This gives Collyer the opportunity to take Finlay’s legs out. And he applies the Courtesy Flush! They’re in the middle of the ring, and Finlay has no choice but to eventually tap out.
Chad Collyer def. Finlay
Ric Flair is on the phone in his office, trying to put together a tag match to determine the #1 contender when JJ Dillon walks in. JJ informs Ric that he took matters into his own hands and found a replacement. Ric looks a bit annoyed, but he trusts JJ. JJ explains that he told David Flair that if he could find a tag team partner, he and a partner of his choosing could face off with God’s Gift to Women to determine the #1 contenders for The Steiner Brothers’ tag team titles.

God’s Gift to Women (Idol Stevens & Johnny Lust) vs. David Flair & ???

David Flair makes his way down the ramp alone, but he has a confident look in his eyes. That’s when Marty Jannetty, an accomplished tag team competitor in his own right, appears at the top of the entrance ramp.
Rick Rude: Seriously? Jannetty? That's the best David Flair could do? C'mon, kid.
Tony Schiavone: David Flair just went out and found himself a decorated tag-team wrestler for an impromptu tag match. I'd say he did pretty well, and the fans are certainly on board. Listen to this ovation!
Rick Rude: When you start doing stuff to please these people, you're set up for failure. They don't know anything.
The action starts at a fast pace, which suits Flair and Jannetty. Unfortunately, Andrew Thomas gets caught with his head turned, allowing Stevens and Lust to pull off a quick double-team on Jannetty in the corner, slowing down the momentum from the makeshift tag team.
Closing Moments
Jannetty finally manages to make a tag, and David Flair comes in with a full head of steam. He knocks Johnny Lust from the ring apron and sets his sights on Idol Stevens. Flair's youthful enthusiasm bites him, as he climbs to the top rope and goes for an elbow drop, but there's nobody home! He misses and crashes to the mat with a thud.
Stevens picks up Flair and quickly delivers a Snap Swinging Neckbreaker. Stevens goes for the pin.

The crowd could not be more firmly entrenched behind Orton in this one. Unfortunately, for them, Bagwell has controlled much of the early portion of this match. After tossing his opponent to the outside of the ring, Bagwell confronts Bob Orton, letting him know that he's nothing more than a "has been."
Rick Rude: Thank God somebody's saying it. What's Orton's old ass out here doing? He's just trying to ride his son's coattails. Too bad his kid isn't going anywhere in this business.
Tony Schiavone: What are you going on about, Rick? Randy Orton is one of the most promising young members of this roster.
Closing Moments
Both men are down, and Rudy Charles is counting. As he gets to 7, it's Bagwell who starts to stir first. He climbs up onto the second rope, clearly hoping to catch Orton with a Blockbuster. Orton's to his feet and Bagwell goes airborne. ORTON CATCHES HIM WITH AN RKO!
Tony Schiavone: RKO out of nowhere!
Orton rolls over onto Bagwell and hooks the near leg.

The action has been fast-paced in this one, as all three ladies seem to be using different strategies. Laree is passing out punishment to anyone who gets in her path, while Moretti seems to be trying to focus most of her attention on Taylor by keeping Laree out of the ring. Shantelle Taylor, meanwhile, has been using her risk-taking moves to get out of tough situations. With both Laree and Moretti on the outside, Taylor sees an opportunity and dives onto both of them.
Tony Schiavone: Tope Suicida!
Rick Rude: What in the hell are you talking about, Schiavone?!
Closing Moments
Moretti has once again managed to isolate Taylor in the ring by throwing Laree into the ring steps. She kicks Shantelle in the stomach, doubling her over.
Rick Rude: I think she's going for it, Tony! We're about to see a winner here.
Moretti drives Taylor into the mat with a Sitout Facebuster! This has to be it. As she gets to her feet, Laree has slid back into the ring! She grabs Moretti and tosses her out of the ring, giving her a taste of her own medicine. Laree hooks Taylor's leg and goes for the pin!

The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) [c] vs. God’s Gift to Women (Idol Stevens & Johnny Lust)

The Steiner brothers have had control for the better part of the match, but Rick is in trouble. After some underhanded tactics from Idol Stevens from the apron, "The Dog Faced Gremlin" desperately needs to make a tag. Every time he starts to get closer to Scott, God's Gift to Women manages to cut him off. Johnny Lust applies a sleeper hold, and Rick is fading fast. Scott tries desperately from the corner to rally his brother, and the crowd quickly joins him. Rick Steiner gets back up to his feet slowly, methodically trying to break the sleeper just before his arm falls for the third time. Somehow, someway, he musters up the strength and drops Johnny Lust with a suplex. The crowd comes unhinged when Rick finally makes a tag to Scott, who comes in with a full head of steam. He knocks Stevens from the apron and begins delivering clotheslines to Lust, keeping the challenger on the mat.
Closing Moments
Scott has been in total control since he came into the match, and it doesn't appear to be changing.
Tony Schiavone: The champions appear to be on the edge of retaining here. Scott Steiner has delivered some serious punishment to both members of God's Gift to Women.
Rick Rude: Lust and Stevens aren't out of this thing yet, you moron. We need some tag champions we can be proud of in this company.
Scott chases Stevens toward the corner where Lust is waiting for a tag, and Johnny Lust delivers a cheap shot! Rick Steiner tries to climb in to help his brother, but Andrew Thomas cuts him off. The ref's back is turned when Lust pulls a pair of brass knuckles from his trunks, and smacks Scott Steiner in the back of the head with them! Scott is out cold!

Rick Rude: FINALLY! We have new tag team champions! God's Gift to Women are now God's gift to this tag team division!
After the match, Idol Stevens grabs the mic and announces that the titles are finally back with the greatest tag team in the history of professional wrestling. Suddenly, he’s interrupted when….
Tony Schiavone: Oh my God! What are these guys doing here?! It's...LEGION OF DOOOOOM!
Hawk and Animal stand at the top of the entrance ramp and don't say a word. They simply stare down the new champions as the crowd goes insane!
Match 2:

Randy Orton (w/ Cowboy Bob Orton) vs. Brent Albright

Albright uses his power early to gain an advantage, pummeling away at Orton in the corner.
Tony Schiavone: This is sure to be a great match between two of the hottest young prospects in MAW.
Rick Rude: This is about to be a beat down of Randy Orton, Schiavone. Look at the arms on Albright. Look at that physique. There's no way Orton can fight his way out of this one.
For much of the match, Rick Rude appears to be right. Every time Orton begins to mount some sort of offense, Albright uses his raw power to neutralize Orton. Albright applies a bearhug, squeezing the life out of Orton as Rudy Charles asks Orton if he wants to submit. He refuses, and as the crowd begins to rally behind him, he starts delivering a series of rights and lefts to Albright's head. He breaks free of the hold and delivers a textbook dropkick that knocks Albright into the ropes. Orton quickly rallies and delivers a clothesline that takes both men over the top and onto the floor.
Closing Moments
Rudy Charles has managed to get both men back into the ring, and the tides have turned. Orton is now firmly in control of the action. In an impressive show of strength, he delivers a falling bodyslam to Albright and backs away slowly.
Tony Schiavone: He's got him set up for the RKO. It's coming! Wait, what the hell?!
Marcus Bagwell hops the security railing with a chair in his hand, and he smashes it over the back of Orton! Orton is down, and the official has no choice but to call for the bell.
Randy Orton def. Brent Albright (by DQ)
Bagwell continues to swing away at Randy Orton with the chair when Bob Orton hops into the ring to help his son. Bagwell smacks him in the head with the chair! Both Ortons are down as MAW officials and security rush to the ring.

Alexis Laree vs. Lisa Moretti

These two women have built up a lot of bad blood over the last month, and it's quickly on display. As soon as the bell sounds, both ladies charge at one another and begin throwing wild punches, kicks, and anything else they can think of.
Tony Schiavone: It's obvious how much these two care about becoming the first MAW Women's Champion.
Laree manages to gain the advantage, using her speed and agility to get the edge on Moretti. The crowd is quick to put their support behind Moretti.
Rick Rude: It's amazing that the crowd chooses to support this bimbo. She could've chosen any opponent in the company, and she chose the best pound-for-pound women's wrestler on the roster. These do-gooders just get dumber and dumber.
Tony Schiavone: Maybe she wants to prove that she's the best by beating the best, Rick. Alexis Laree earned the right to call her shot by pinning Shantelle Taylor. She hasn't pinned Lisa Moretti, at least not yet.
Rick Rude: And she's not going to tonight.
Closing Moments
Lisa Moretti has gained the advantage, and she goes for the pin.
Tony Schiavone: HER FEET ARE ON THE ROPES!

LAREE KICKS OUT! Moretti is incensed as she turns around to argue with the official. This gives Alexis Laree the break that she needs. She grabs Moretti, spins her around, and hits her with a Laree DDT!

Montel Vontavious Porter [c] vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Page charges at Porter as the bell sounds, looking to gain an early advantage. He delivers a shoulder block that knocks Porter into the corner, and Page charges straight in, delivering a bevy of kicks to the fallen champion. Mickey Henson finally manages to pull the challenger away before the 5 count.
Rick Rude: Page should be disqualified. You can't beat on a man in the corner like that!
Porter seizes the opportunity while Page is distracted and hits him low with a chop block. Porter focuses heavily on Page's right leg, draping his ankle over the bottom rope and delivering a sickening stomp. Page screams in agony, as Porter repeats the move.
Tony Schiavone: He's going to break his ankle!
Porter goes back to the well one too many times, though. As he leaps into the air to drive his knee into Page's injured ankle, Page rolls out of the way, under the bottom rope, and tries to create some space between himself and the champion. However, Porter won't let up, and he goes after the challenger on the outside. He clubs Page over the back with a forearm, knocking him into the security railing. The US Champion backs away, sizes up his opponent, and charges in. Page ducks his shoulder down, and lifts Porter into the crowd! Page climbs over the railing, following Porter into the crowd.
Tony Schiavone: I know that the crowd at ringside is loving this, but Page needs to remember that he can only win this match in the ring.
Rick Rude: Why isn't this idiot referee counting? He should already be at 7. Do your damn job, Mickey!
The official seems to be a bit lenient, choosing instead to join the two men in the crowd, convincing Page to take the fight back to the ring. He tosses Porter over the railing near the announce table, and rolls into the ring and back out to break the count.
Closing Moments
Page has been busted open after bouncing his head off the steel post. While Mickey Henson checks on him, Porter is reaching into his tights. He's looking for something. He's got a set of brass knuckles!
Tony Schiavone: Dammit, no! We've already seen the tag titles change hands because of a pair of brass knuckles. Check him, ref!
Rick Rude: You sure didn't care about the official doing his job when this should've ended with a double count out, did you?
Page pushes Henson away, and Porter winds up with a loaded punch. He swings, AND PAGE DUCKS! DIAMOND CUTTER! The brass knuckles go flying as Porter falls to the mat in a heap.

DDP goes through the crowd to celebrate with the people as the crew starts bringing ladders to ringside to prepare for the Call Your Shot Ladder Match. While they're getting set up, the camera goes backstage to Ric Flair's office.
There's a knock at the door and before Ric can respond, David Flair appears to a chorus of boos.
Ric Flair: David, what do you need?
David Flair: Listen, you've got four guys in the Call Your Shot match coming up. You and I both know there's room for one more. Put me in the match, Dad. Let me prove that I belong here.
Ric Flair: Listen, son. I've given you chances to earn opportunities for the last month. I don't have any proof, but I have a good feeling that you know what happened to Dinsmore a couple weeks ago. I think you tried to create your own opportunity. Tonight's card is set in stone. There will be other opportunities, but you're not going out there tonight.
David Flair: C'mon. You're telling me that you don't have anything for me tonight? Seriously?!
Ric Flair: I'm telling you that your last name doesn't mean jack shit around here, son. You wanna earn the respect of that locker room, you have to go out there, bust your ass, and win some matches. When I started wrestling in the 70s, nobody gave a damn about the 'Flair' name. It means something now, but I'm not going to give you a chance to call your shot just because you have it. Now, I need to make some phone calls, so if you'll excuse me...
David Flair has an annoyed look on his face as he walks out of the office. He passes JJ Dillon at the door.
JJ Dillon: Everything good in here, Ric?
Ric Flair: Everything's fine. Just David asking for a favor.
Match 6:
Stu Bennett vs. Nick Aldis vs. Elijah Burke vs. Ken Anderson
Officials: Mickey Henson, Rudy Charles, and Andrew Thomas
(Call Your Shot Ladder Match)
Tony Schiavone: Life is about to change for one of these four men. The first person to climb the ladder and pull down the contract will have the right to call his shot for any championship of his choosing sometime within the next 12 months. Rick, any predictions?
Rick Rude: This certainly has the potential to be a life-changing moment, Tony. As far as a prediction goes, give me Ken Anderson.
Tony Schiavone: It's hard to pick against Anderson, but that's what I'm going to do here. I think Nick Aldis is probably the man to beat here. His combination of size and speed should make him hard to keep down in a ladder match.
The bell sounds, as Bennett goes straight after Anderson, as Aldis and Burke begin their own fight. It's almost impossible to keep up with the chaotic action that's unfolding. Bennett and Anderson quickly spill to the outside of the ring, and Elijah Burke climbs the turnbuckle and flings himself onto them. Aldis doesn't waste any time as he grabs a ladder, sets it up in the middle of the ring, and begins to climb. It's Burke who gets to his feet first. He rushes in, and kicks the ladder from under Aldis, sending him to the mat in a heap.
Anderson climbs back into the ring, picks up the ladder, and begins to swing it around. He hits Burke hard enough to knock him from the ring and knocks Bennett from the ring apron with it. He charges toward Aldis with the ladder and smashes it into his ribs. Now, it's Anderson who seems poised to make the climb, and he begins his ascent. This one could be over early, as Anderson's fingertips are on the contract.
Rick Rude: I told you! Ken Anderson is going to win this match!
Before he can secure the briefcase, Stu Bennett rushes to the ring and begins climbing up the other side. The two men battle atop the ladder, trading punches. Aldis gets to his feet and pushes the ladder down, sending both Anderson and Bennett crashing to the mat.
Closing Moments
There are now two ladders in the ring, and all four men are scaling. Nick Aldis and Elijah Burke are trading blows at the top of one ladder while Ken Anderson and Stu Bennett are brawling away on the other. Burke delivers a headbutt that knocks Aldis from the ladder as Anderson bounces Bennett's head off the top step. Bennett goes down, and he's busted wide open!
Burke and Anderson each grab hold of the contract, but neither of them can get it loose. They lock eyes and then both look up at the contract. Suddenly, it snaps free from its brace, and a tug-of-war breaks out 12 feet in the air!
Rick Rude: Anderson has the contract! Anderson has the contract!
Tony Schiavone: So does Burke! Whichever man comes down with it is going to be able to call his shot!
Perched high above the mat, both men let go of the contract with one hand and begin swinging wildly with the other. It's a melee at the top of the ladder between Burke and Anderson! Burke balances himself on one foot and plants a heavy left foot into Anderson's ladder and it begins to wobble! Anderson struggles to maintain his balance. He's going down! Anderson tries desperately to hold onto the contract, but it's no use. His ladder crashes down, leaving Elijah Burke with the Call Your Shot Contract in his hands!
Tony Schivaone: It's an upset for the ages, folks! Elijah Burke, one of the youngest competitors on the MAW roster has won the first ever Call Your Shot Ladder Match!
Match 6:

Chris Jericho [c] vs. Sting

Closing Moments
Official Mickey Henson is still incapacitated, face down on the mat. Sting has the Scorpion Death Lock locked in…and JERICHO IS TAPPING!
Tony Schiavone: The champion is tapping out! Sting should be the new MAW Heavyweight Champion!
Rick Rude: That doesn’t mean anything, you moron! The ref doesn’t see it, it doesn’t count. You know what, forget this.
Rick Rude gets up from the announce table, grabs a steel chair from ringside, and slides into the ring. MAW’s color commentator delivers a crushing blow to Sting’s back! The Man Called Sting seems to be unphased. He releases the hold, and turns around, grabbing Rick Rude by his tie. This allows Jericho to sneak up behind Sting, and he hits him with a low blow! Sting falls to the mat, as Rick Rude rolls out of the ring. He goes over and slaps Mickey Henson, trying to wake him up. Henson comes to as Jericho locks in The Walls of Jericho. But Sting won’t tap out! He just won’t quit, as Rick Rude looks on from ringside. Finally, the pain is just too much, and Sting loses consciousness. Mickey Henson calls for the bell.
Chris Jericho def. Sting to Retain the MAW Heavyweight Championship
Tony Schiavone: Folks, I have no idea what we’ve just witnessed here tonight. This is a travesty; an absolute miscarriage of justice. My broadcast colleague, Rick Rude, just cost Sting the MAW Heavy…wait a minute. I’m being told something is happening backstage.
As Jericho celebrates in the ring with Rick Rude, the cameras pick up a disturbance backstage. A group of people are gathered around someone lying on the floor, but it’s hard to see who it is. As the crowd disperses so medical personnel can get to the individual, we see Ric Flair lying on the ground, his blonde hair soaked in blood. The show goes off the air as an unconscious Flair is rolled onto his back as a backboard gets brought into the room.
