![]() January 25th, 2022 Tuesday Edition ![]() MLB Owners, Players Meet, Situation Worsens Scott Anderson New York, New York - The lockout between the owners of Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association has continued to face a deadlock, with the prospect of a strike-shortened season looming more. Many insiders speculate that there may not be a 2022 season should the lockout continue into March. The lockout began on December 2nd when the Players and Owners could not agree on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) before the previous CBA's deadline. Several tenets of the new agreement were to be an increase in benefits in favor of the players. Additionally, minor league players were also to be covered in this new agreement, officially added within the fold of the MLB Players Association. The current MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, declined to comment on the condition of the negotiations. The Owners, in addition to league officials, demanded the implementation of new rule changes within the Collective Bargaining Agreement, such as a new pitch clock that would speed the game up and reduce unnecessary delays. During these negotiations, several major names within the Players Association have been rumored to be undergoing negotiations with a new league that has been under development for the last few years: The North American League of Professional Baseball Clubs. The NAL, as it's colloquially referred to, was founded in late-2020 with the backing of several major names in the sports world. Among these names include NFL owners Jim Irsay, Jimmy Haslam, David Tepper, and the Wilf family. The new league has already announced that 20 teams will be located in areas that are underutilized by the MLB, including international locations in Canada and Mexico. New stadiums in several locations are already underway in preparation for these new teams. Insiders to the organization have hinted at major television deals being in the works for the NAL, including CBS, Paramount, and Amazon. For now, the standoff within the MLB continues...
